Jonas Andersson Triumphs At Grand Prix Of Zhengzhou, Leading UIM F1H2O Championship Standings
Jonas Andersson from Sweden emerged victorious in the Grand Prix of Zhengzhou, China. This win propels him to the top of the 2024 UIM F1H2O World Championship standings. The championship is now set for an exciting finale in Sharjah. Team Abu Dhabi's Thani Al Qemzi faced setbacks, while Rusty Wyatt of Sharjah Team lost his lead due to mechanical issues.
Defending champion Andersson now holds a slender three-point advantage over Canadian newcomer Wyatt as they head into December's final round in Sharjah. Frenchman Peter Morin climbed to third place in the standings after securing second place in Zhengzhou, surpassing Erik Stark.

Al Qemzi's early exit due to technical problems added to Team Abu Dhabi's woes in Zhengzhou. Rashed Al Qemzi, a five-time F2 world champion, couldn't start the Grand Prix after facing issues in the sprint race. The team aims for a strong finish on Khalid Lagoon in Sharjah, where Thani Al Qemzi debuted in 2020 and secured third place last year.
Andersson had already clinched his second world title before arriving in Sharjah last season. He achieved his fourth consecutive race victory there. Wyatt will aim to prevent a repeat performance when they meet again in two months.
The Canadian rookie has impressed with victories in Indonesia, Sardinia, and Shanghai during his debut season. However, he faced challenges today, losing pace early and halting after 14 laps. Despite this setback, Wyatt remains hopeful of securing the drivers' title on home waters.
The penultimate round saw drama unfold as Stark and Ahmad Al Fahim collided, eliminating both Victory Team drivers from the race. American Brent Dillard also faced difficulties, barrel-rolling to a stop on the opening lap.
Team Abu Dhabi's Challenges
China has been favourable for veteran Al Qemzi with two wins among his ten career victories there. However, his 157th Grand Prix ended prematurely after just two laps due to technical issues.
Andersson demonstrated control by securing his 13th pole position followed by a sprint race win yesterday. Today, he claimed his 15th Grand Prix victory with nearly ten seconds ahead of Morin. Finland's Sami Selio took third place on the podium.
