Jiu-Jitsu Asian Union Maps Out Strategies For Sport's Growth In Asia

The Jiu-Jitsu Asian Union recently held a strategic meeting on the sidelines of the eighth Jiu-Jitsu Asian Championship in Abu Dhabi, aiming to chart the future course for the sport's development and expansion. The session, attended by Union board members and officials from the Jiu-Jitsu International Federation, culminated in the ratification of the agenda for the 2024 General Assembly of the Federation. This gathering underscored the sport's burgeoning growth across Asia, a trend vividly illustrated by the athletes' stellar performances at the Hangzhou Asian Games.

During this pivotal meeting, discussions revolved around evaluating the successes of the latest Asian Jiu-Jitsu Championship and considering additional continental and international championships across Asia. Panagiotis Theodoropoulos, President of the Jiu-Jitsu International Federation, lauded the members' enthusiasm and commitment to propelling the sport forward in their regions. "We are delighted to review the substantial progress that Jiu-Jitsu has made in Asia and to discuss numerous future initiatives," Theodoropoulos remarked, acknowledging the UAE's crucial role in hosting these significant events.

Fahad Al Shamsi, Secretary-General of the Jiu-Jitsu Asian Union, described the meeting as productive, covering a broad spectrum of topics relevant to jiu-jitsu's growth. "We have laid out comprehensive plans for the next year and beyond," Al Shamsi stated, highlighting the board's satisfaction with the sport's progress and their continued dedication to its advancement.

Rakan Alfehaid, Chief Executive Officer of the Saudi Jiu-Jitsu Federation, shared his optimism about jiu-jitsu's future, noting a significant increase in practitioners within Saudi Arabia. The kingdom has seen a surge in interest in jiu-jitsu, with more individuals participating and an expansion of clubs and academies. "Our national team is one of the largest this year in terms of participant numbers," Alfehaid mentioned, expressing confidence in their preparation and aspirations for strong results.

The meeting not only reflected on past achievements but also set a forward-looking agenda aimed at further elevating jiu-jitsu's profile on both continental and international stages.
