Japan Unveils Plans For Expo 2025 Osaka Inspired By UAE's Successful Expo 2020
The Japan Association for the 2025 World Exposition has unveiled its comprehensive plan for Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai, Japan. Scheduled from 13th April to 13th October 2025, the event will take place on Osaka's Yumeshima island. The theme, "Designing Future Society for Our Lives," aims to address global challenges through three sub-themes: "Saving Lives," "Empowering Lives," and "Connecting Lives."
Arai Yohei, Deputy Director of the association, stated that over 161 countries and nine international organisations will join the expo. The event is anticipated to attract more than 28 million visitors. During his visit to Expo City Dubai, Arai highlighted the significance of the UAE-Japan relationship and how it influences Japan's participation in global events.

The UAE pavilion at Expo Osaka will be located in the Empowering Lives Zone near the Japanese pavilion. It is classified as Category A, making it one of the largest international pavilions. The design draws inspiration from Emirati heritage, incorporating palm fronds and Japanese wood construction techniques.
Expo City Osaka will be held on Yumeshima island for the first time. This opportunity allowed Japan to develop new infrastructure, including a metro station similar to Expo Dubai’s metro. This station will connect tourist attractions, hotels, and smart transportation systems that are yet to be revealed.
The Grand Ring is a highlight of the final design for Expo 2025 Osaka. It is a massive wooden structure using 27,000 cubic metres of wood. Standing twenty metres high with a circumference of two kilometres, it serves as a symbol of the venue and will welcome visitors globally.
Collaborative Efforts and Cultural Exchange
During his visit to the UAE, Arai praised its efforts in research, development, and sustainability. He also noted Expo City Dubai's warm reception of Miyako Miyako, the official mascot of Expo Osaka Kansai 2025. This gesture signifies friendship between Dubai and Osaka as host cities for world expos.
The UAE pavilion will focus on space exploration and sustainable technologies. It aims to showcase innovative solutions that enhance collaborative efforts between nations. The pavilion's design reflects both Emirati culture and Japanese expertise in construction.
Expo City Dubai hosted an event where mascots Rashid, Latifa, and Opti presented the Bureau International des Expositions (BIE) flag at Al Wasl Plaza. This act symbolised cooperation between Dubai and Osaka as they prepare for their respective expos.
Japan's commitment to addressing global environmental challenges continues with Expo Osaka-Kansai 2025. Following Expo 2020 in Dubai's success, Japan aims to further its mission by engaging with international partners through this upcoming event.
