Abu Dhabi's ITC Ramps Up Traffic And Worshipper Support At Sheikh Zayed Mosque For Ramadan
In an effort to enhance the traffic flow and ensure the comfort of worshippers at Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque during the Holy Month of Ramadan, the Integrated Transport Centre (ITC) of the Department of Municipalities and Transport (DMT) in Abu Dhabi has ramped up its operations. The ITC's commitment to improving surveillance, inspection services, and organising traffic movement is evident in its strategic deployment of resources and personnel.
Throughout Ramadan, the ITC has deployed a team of 33 inspectors and supervisors stationed between the north and south gates of the mosque. This team's presence was notably increased during the last ten days of Ramadan, with the number of personnel rising to 43 inspectors and supervisors from 9:00 pm to 2:00 am. The primary goal is to ensure the organised use of parking spaces and facilitate smoother traffic flow around the mosque premises.

Worshippers and fasting individuals have been guided to iftar and Taraweeh prayer locations by inspectors in parking areas and tents. Efforts have been made to direct arriving worshippers to available parking spaces efficiently, aiming to provide a serene and smooth spiritual experience throughout Ramadan.
To accommodate everyone, dedicated parking spaces have been allocated for people of determination and senior citizens. The distribution of vehicles is organised based on specific permits for each category, ensuring seamless movement at entry and exit points.
The ITC employs a comprehensive set of procedures to monitor roads surrounding the mosque and intersections. Surveillance cameras and monitoring systems are in place for an immediate response to any congestion or traffic incidents. Additionally, mobile electronic boards have been utilised, along with activated directional messages for visitor parking on fixed electronic variable message signs (VMS) surrounding the mosque area.
Emphasising road safety, the ITC has increased routine surveillance patrols, provided road service patrol, and vehicle towing services. These measures are particularly active during Taraweeh prayers and in the last ten days of Ramadan, aiming to assist in clearing any traffic incidents promptly.
To cater to the needs of visitors, over 100 taxis are made available daily by the ITC, with an increase in availability during the last ten days of Ramadan. This adjustment is in response to the anticipated growth in demand during this peak period.
The concerted efforts by the ITC during Ramadan underscore its dedication to ensuring a smooth traffic flow and enhancing the overall experience for worshippers visiting Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque. Through meticulous planning and strategic deployment of resources, the ITC aims to facilitate a peaceful and orderly environment for all attendees throughout this holy month.
