Italian Salerno Medical School Acknowledges UAE's Humanitarian Efforts During COVID-19 Crisis
The Italian Salerno Medical School has honoured Sheikh Abdulla bin Mohammed bin Butti Al Hamed with the Schola Salernitana Lumen et Magister Award. This recognition highlights the UAE's humanitarian efforts during the COVID-19 pandemic. The UAE provided significant medical and logistical aid globally, showcasing its commitment to international cooperation and human solidarity.
The award ceremony took place at the Italian Chamber of Deputies in Rome, under the patronage of President Sergio Mattarella. Attendees included Abdulla Ali Al Saboosi, UAE Ambassador to Italy, and other notable figures like Awadh Seghayer Al Ketbi from Dubai Health Authority and Syed Basar Shueb from International Holding Company.
Sheikh Abdulla conveyed greetings from President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan during his speech. He stated, "The one who truly deserves this award and recognition is the fervent and key supporter of us all, the one who removes obstacles, fulfills the impossible, and follows up on every detail, no matter how meticulous, and every problem, no matter how tremendous: His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan."
He also praised frontline workers for their dedication during challenging times. "I must not forget the unsung heroes of the frontline, as well as the volunteers who set an inspiring example of dedication and hard and diligent work to save patients' lives in the most difficult circumstances, embodying the highest meanings of sacrifice and giving. They are most deserving of appreciation and gratitude," he said.
The UAE's response to COVID-19 was marked by unity among its diverse population. Sheikh Abdulla noted that over 200 nationalities trusted the UAE's measures against the pandemic. The country played a crucial role in global humanitarian efforts by providing 80% of international aid during this crisis.
Dr. Abdallah Raweh highlighted that "the spirit of charity, giving, and sacrifice" connects Salerno Medical School with the UAE. The school hosted an "Italian-Emirati Scientific Day" to honour Arab contributions to medicine. This event underscored Italy's appreciation for UAE's support in scientific research collaboration.
Acknowledging Key Contributions
Syed Basar Shueb expressed his gratitude for receiving recognition from Salerno Medical School. He said, "I am honoured to receive this prestigious recognition from the Almo College of the Salerno Medical School. This award is a testament to the UAE’s commitment to advancing scientific research and fostering global collaboration."
The event concluded with a documentary screening about Schola Salernitana Lumen et Magister Award's history. A press conference followed where UAE's pandemic efforts were discussed alongside honourees' achievements.
Future Cooperation Prospects
Sheikh Abdulla expressed hope for increased collaboration between UAE and Salerno Medical School in scientific research. He thanked Italy's president for supporting this initiative which recognises UAE's global contributions against COVID-19.
The UAE led numerous initiatives during this period including building field hospitals worldwide while donating $10 million to WHO among other efforts aimed at combating COVID-19 globally.
