Maire's Tecnimont Wins $1.1 Billion Contract For Petrochemical Plant In Algeria
Maire, an esteemed Italian technology and engineering conglomerate, recently disclosed that Tecnimont, its principal subsidiary renowned for Integrated Engineering, Procurement, Construction, and Commissioning (E&C) Solutions, has been awarded a lucrative contract worth $1.1 billion. This significant contract, bestowed by Sonatrach, entails the development of a new petrochemical facility in Algeria.
The assignment involves the construction of a linear alkyl benzene (LAB) plant within the industrial zone of Skikda, situated 350 km east of Algiers. LAB, recognized for its cost-effectiveness and biodegradability, acts as a crucial intermediary in manufacturing household detergents, industrial cleaners, and surfactants. Slated for completion in 2028, this project aims at establishing a LAB plant with an annual production capacity of 100,000 tonnes, alongside the necessary utilities, offsites, and interconnections with existing structures.
The awarded EPCC contract focuses on a plant dedicated to producing intermediates for the detergent and surfactant sectors, facilitating the creation of high-value chemicals derived from natural resources. Tecnimont's selection for this project was primarily due to its exemplary track record in project execution and its longstanding presence in Algeria.
Alessandro Bernini, CEO of Maire Group, expressed honor in augmenting the company's track record with Sonatrach, especially considering the strategic relationship between Italy and Algeria within the current global energy supply context. "This achievement further strengthens our footprint in Algeria and allows the valorization of the downstream petrochemical value chain, where we are the undisputed world leader," Bernini added, highlighting the significance of this project for both the Maire Group and the broader industry.
