Human Rights Union Seeks Global Civilian Safeguards In Conflict Zones

The Union Association for Human Rights recently made a significant contribution at the 55th session of the Human Rights Council's High-level Segment in Geneva. The focus of their participation was on the critical need for international protection of civilians amidst wars, armed conflicts, and during the planning stages of military operations. The Association specifically lauded the United Arab Emirates (UAE) for its proactive efforts in promoting peace and its commitment to reducing civilian suffering in conflict zones.

According to a statement released on the United Nations website, the UAE's humanitarian and relief endeavors were highly commended. These efforts include providing essential resources like water, food, and medicine, alongside healthcare services to vulnerable groups such as children, women, and the injured across various countries and conflict areas. The Association underscored the UAE's role alongside other nations and international organizations in safeguarding humanitarian protection for civilians during times of war and conflict.

Global Call for Civilian Protection

The UAE's dedication to protecting civilians through its support via numerous institutions and humanitarian initiatives has placed it at the forefront of global humanitarian support efforts. The Union Association for Human Rights expressed profound gratitude towards the UAE's initiatives and major projects that have significantly bolstered humanitarian support in conflict-ridden regions worldwide.

Rooted in its rich cultural heritage and a strong commitment to international cooperation, the UAE's efforts are aimed at bolstering international partnerships in humanitarian projects to ensure civilian protection against the ravages of war and armed conflicts. This was highlighted in a written statement by the Union Association for Human Rights, in collaboration with the Arab-European Human Rights Dialogue, under item four of the agenda of the sessions of the Human Rights Council.

The Association also recommended that the Human Rights Council undertake effective and transparent investigations into violations of international humanitarian law and human rights law. It emphasized the necessity of coordinating with relevant agencies to boost humanitarian awareness and train military forces globally to comply with war laws and regulations, thereby ensuring civilian protection.

Furthermore, the Association urged all United Nations bodies and agencies to prioritize addressing the suffering endured by women and children, advocating for procedures and mechanisms aimed at achieving international protection for civilians during wars, armed conflicts, and military operations planning.

Under the leadership of Dr. Fatima Khalifa Al Kaabi, President of the Association, and Mariam Mohammed Al Ahmadi, Vice President, alongside a team of international human rights experts, the Union Association for Human Rights, established in January 2024 in the UAE, is making strides in advocating for civilian protection on a global stage.
