House Of Wisdom Engages In Cultural Collaboration With Arab World Institute In Paris

The House of Wisdom (HoW) recently explored potential collaborations with the Arab World Institute (AWI) in Paris, focusing on cultural and knowledge exchanges. The discussions aimed to enhance the global presence of Arab culture and literature through specialised exhibitions and multilingual publishing projects. Marwa Al Aqroubi, Executive Director of HoW, met with Jack Lang, President of AWI, and Dr. Shawqi Abdul Amir, Director of AWI, to discuss these opportunities.

During their meeting in Paris, both parties examined ways to broaden cooperation and develop joint cultural programmes. These initiatives aim to highlight the beauty and history of Arab culture while fostering dialogue with other world cultures. They also discussed hosting roaming artistic and cultural exhibitions between Paris and Sharjah and creating multilingual publications for international audiences.

Cultural Collaboration Between HoW and AWI

The meeting included an exchange of knowledge and expertise on organising events that promote cross-cultural understanding. Both institutions reviewed their experiences in curating such events, which aim to build bridges among nations. The focus was on developing projects that have a lasting civilizational and intellectual impact beyond traditional event models.

Marwa Al Aqroubi expressed her enthusiasm for collaborating with AWI, stating: "Engaging with the Arab World Institute, a reputed institution with decades of experience in promoting Arab culture across Europe, reflects our shared belief in the transformative power of culture." She emphasised the importance of partnerships in amplifying Arab contributions globally.

Dr. Shawqi Abdul Amir highlighted the shared vision between HoW and AWI: "The HoW shares our belief in the essential role of culture in fostering mutual understanding between peoples." He noted that this collaboration could provide new momentum for their initiatives by moving beyond conventional event models.

Al Aqroubi toured AWI’s facilities during her visit, including its renowned library dedicated to Arab affairs. She explored its extensive collection of books and research publications as well as permanent and temporary exhibition spaces showcasing traditional and contemporary Arab life through interactive displays.

Exploring Historical Narratives

While at AWI, Al Aqroubi visited the exhibition "Rescued Treasures of Gaza: 5000 Years of History," which is open until November 2. She praised its professional curation and effort to showcase Palestine’s rich historical legacy through rare artefacts. The exhibition highlights a civilisation's enduring presence despite challenges.

Dr. Shawqi Abdul Amir added that presenting a dynamic portrayal of Arab culture is crucial at a time when renewed narratives are needed to reshape East-West relations. He expressed confidence that this partnership would allow them to expand their exhibitions beyond their headquarters.

This collaboration aims to reinforce Sharjah’s status as a centre for cultural innovation while contributing to a more inclusive global cultural narrative. By building meaningful partnerships, both institutions seek to foster understanding between nations through culture.
