Hili Forum 2025 Concludes With Key Recommendations To Enhance International Cooperation And Understanding
The Emirates Centre for Strategic Studies and Research (ECSSR), in partnership with the Anwar Gargash Diplomatic Academy (AGDA), recently wrapped up the second Hili Forum. This event, themed "Global Reset: Trade, Tech, and Governance," gathered diplomats, experts, and policymakers worldwide. It underscored the UAE's significant role in addressing global challenges through practical solutions.
On the forum's final day, discussions centred on Geotech, building upon previous talks about geopolitics and geoeconomics. Keynote speeches and discussions delved into how transformative technologies like artificial intelligence, quantum computing, and robotics are reshaping global power dynamics. Participants highlighted that while these technologies offer vast opportunities, they also bring shared responsibilities to ensure they contribute positively to global development and security.
Lana Nusseibeh, Minister of State, emphasised the importance of resilience for states to protect their sovereignty in a changing international landscape. She stressed diplomacy's crucial role in achieving regional peace. Nusseibeh stated, "No order endures through confrontation, no system survives on exclusion, and no peace is secured through aggression." She reiterated that Palestine remains central to a peaceful Middle East future and warned against Israel's potential annexation of Palestinian land.
Dr. Sultan Al Nuaimi, Director-General of ECSSR, spoke about the forum's impact by saying it highlights the UAE’s commitment to dialogue and communication. He noted the presence of high-level ministers and thought leaders addressing pressing regional and global challenges. The collaboration with AGDA aims to solidify the forum as a leading platform for global dialogue.
Nickolay Mladenov, Director-General of AGDA, remarked that discussions at Hili Forum 2025 showed technology's pivotal role in reshaping global power dynamics. Debates on artificial intelligence stressed the need for international cooperation to use these technologies responsibly for peace and development. These discussions also highlighted the UAE’s increasing influence as a diplomatic force shaping future international relations.
Dr. N Janardhan from AGDA pointed out the necessity of developing legal frameworks to protect human values amid technological advancements. He stated that emerging technologies like artificial intelligence present new challenges for international humanitarian law. As these technologies alter conflict conduct, creating ethical guidelines is crucial to ensure responsible use while safeguarding fundamental human values.
