Hili Forum 2025 Opens In Abu Dhabi To Address Global Transformations In Trade, Technology, And Governance
The Hili Forum's second edition commenced in Abu Dhabi, focusing on "Global Reset: Trade, Tech, and Governance." Organised by the Emirates Center for Strategic Studies and Research (ECSSR) with the Anwar Gargash Diplomatic Academy (AGDA), this two-day event underscores the UAE's pivotal role in addressing global challenges. Over 1,000 participants and 70 speakers from more than 30 countries are exploring key transformations in politics, economics, and technology.
Abdulla Bin Touq Al Marri, Minister of Economy and Tourism, highlighted the UAE's economic legacy. He stated: "The United Arab Emirates carries a proud legacy in the fields of economy and commerce, built over centuries of progress. Throughout its history, the nation has strengthened its economic and investment ties with the world, becoming a vital hub that connects East and West, North and South. Today, the UAE stands as one of the most dynamic and influential economic players globally, advancing through a collaborative and inclusive approach to economic diplomacy."

The first day concentrated on geopolitics and geoeconomics. Geopolitical discussions addressed competition among major powers, middle powers' influence, and new partnership opportunities as global power dynamics evolve. Geoeconomic sessions examined economic fragmentation impacts and divergent trade policies on the global economy. Strategies for adaptation through innovation were also discussed.
Lana Nusseibeh from the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs emphasised how Hili Forum dialogues enhance UAE’s soft power. She noted these discussions foster knowledge exchange across regions and sectors. Dr. Sultan Al Nuaimi of ECSSR stressed dialogue's importance at the Forum for turning global disruptions into cooperation opportunities.
Nickolay Mladenov from AGDA remarked that this edition reflects UAE’s commitment to practical solutions beyond dialogue. He said: "The second edition of the Hili Forum reflects the UAE’s determination to move beyond dialogue toward practical solutions and strategic partnerships that can withstand global uncertainty. The UAE’s approach to diplomacy combines foresight with action, positioning the country not only as a convener of ideas but also as a catalyst for collaboration that strengthens security, advances sustainable development, and creates pathways for long-term prosperity."
Dr. Mohammed Ibrahim Al Dhaheri moderated a session on "The Global Gulf: Middle Powers and Mediation Diplomacy." He observed that middle powers are well-placed to mediate conflicts. The Forum facilitated idea exchanges among experts to forge collaborative solutions demonstrating UAE’s commitment to stability.
