Hazza Bin Zayed Attends Lagaya Race At Al Rawda Racetrack Celebrating UAE Camel Racing Heritage
The Al Ain Camel Racing Festival 2025 recently featured a thrilling 4-kilometre Lagaya category race at the Al Rawda Racetrack. H.H. Sheikh Hazza bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Ruler’s Representative in Al Ain Region, was present to witness the event. The festival's third day concluded with exciting races and notable victories.
Yaqeen, owned by Hmoud Sultan Al Ghufaili, triumphed in the Open Young Female Camel Cup (Lagaya category). Meanwhile, Muwafaq, owned by Mohamed Sultan bin Markhan Al Ketbi, took first place in the Young Male Camel Cup (Al Jadaan category). These achievements highlighted the competitive spirit of the festival.
H.H. Sheikh Hazza bin Zayed Al Nahyan extended his congratulations to the winners for their remarkable performances. He praised the extensive participation of camel owners from across the UAE and GCC, which underscores camel racing's popularity and the esteemed status of the festival both locally and regionally.
The Sheikh also lauded the organisers of this inaugural event for their efforts. He stressed the importance of continuing such heritage events while enhancing infrastructure, training facilities, and racetracks to promote camel racing and its community presence.
Camel owners and trainers expressed gratitude for the leadership's ongoing support of camel racing and traditional sports. They appreciated efforts to preserve UAE’s authentic heritage for future generations. This support is crucial for instilling cultural values in younger generations through traditional sports.
The festival aims to foster community engagement by encouraging youth participation in camel racing and related activities. Organised by the Camel Racing Affairs Centre and Presidential Camels, it is supervised by the Camel Racing Federation to ensure cultural preservation.

Among those present were Sheikh Rashid bin Hamdan bin Mohammed Al Nahyan, Board Chairman of the Presidential Flight; Sheikh Mohammed bin Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan; Abdulla Mubarak Al Muhairi, Director of UAE Camel Racing Federation; along with several officials from the camel racing sector. Many camel owners, trainers, and enthusiasts also attended.
The festival not only supports camel racing but also ensures it remains a vital part of UAE’s cultural and sporting heritage. By promoting traditional sports, it strengthens community ties and encourages younger generations to embrace these traditions.
