Global Police Leaders Discuss Transnational Crime And AI Strategies At World Police Summit 2025

The World Police Summit 2025 commenced at the Dubai World Trade Centre, drawing delegations from over 100 nations. This event gathered top law enforcement leaders globally, including those from INTERPOL, the United Nations, and major international police agencies. The summit, running until 15 May, is themed "Beyond the Badge: Envision the Next Era of Policing." It emphasises artificial intelligence in policing, combating transnational crime, and enhancing public-private security collaboration.

On its first day, the summit focused on four key areas: organised crime, anti-money laundering, post-digital transformation, and borderless policing. These topics were explored through strategic conferences, panel discussions, and workshops featuring more than 300 international speakers and experts. The opening plenary session included leaders from INTERPOL, UNODC, the New York Police Department, and other notable institutions. Discussions centred on future policing strategies amid evolving global threats.

Police Leaders Tackle Transnational Crime at Summit

Dr Hatem Ali of UNODC for the GCC highlighted the need to adapt legal frameworks to rapid technological changes. He stated that "International criminal networks are exploiting technology and AI more efficiently than most governments can counter them. We must develop adaptable legal systems and institutional capacities capable of influencing global legal frameworks and fostering national cooperation." His remarks underscored the urgency for governments to keep pace with technological advancements.

Lieutenant Colonel Dr Rashid Hamdan Al Ghafri emphasised the summit’s evolving themes over the years. He noted that each year reflects different priorities: "In our inaugural year, we laid the foundation for global cooperation. In 2023, we inspired the next generation of policing. In 2024, we unified efforts under the banner ‘Shaping a Safer Tomorrow’. This year, we call on agencies to think beyond borders and badges—to reimagine what policing should look like in a connected, rapidly changing world."

A significant panel titled "Rehabilitation for the New Era of Threats" featured international police leaders such as Chief Commissioner Eric Snoeck of Belgium and Roberto Rios from NYPD. They advocated for improved cross-border cooperation and stronger legal frameworks. Inspector General Kayode Egbetokun of Nigeria and Lt. General Tariq Al Hassan from Bahrain also participated in this discussion on trust-building between agencies.

The summit's discussions extend into critical areas like cybercrime, drug enforcement, aviation security, and intelligence-led responses to transnational threats. There is a strong emphasis on youth empowerment and innovative policing models to prepare future officers with necessary tools for upcoming challenges.
