Global Ministers Survey Reveals Key Insights On Future Governance At UN General Assembly 2023
The World Governments Summit (WGS) Organisation, in collaboration with PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC), has unveiled the "Future of Governance" report. This report was launched during the 79th session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York. It presents insights from a survey involving 50 ministers globally, aiming to shape future government models using advanced technologies.
Omar bin Sultan Al Olama, UAE's Minister of State for Artificial Intelligence, Digital Economy, and Remote Work Applications, highlighted the UAE's proactive approach. Under Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum's leadership, the UAE transitioned from a service-based model to a digital government. This evolution anticipates needs and leverages technology for improved governance.

The report identifies four pillars crucial for future governance: data empowerment, innovation, inclusion, and new government work models. These elements are essential for developing efficient business models that can adapt to technological advancements and societal needs.
Rami Nazer from PwC Middle East emphasized the importance of co-creation with citizens and private sectors. He stated, "Our Global Ministers Survey highlights a transformative vision for the future of government." This vision involves leveraging technology and innovation to enhance public service delivery.
The survey results indicate that 84% of ministers prioritize investing in technology and human capital. However, 74% feel current financial resources are inadequate for skill development. Additionally, 60% foresee participatory government models fostering public-private partnerships.
Participants noted that governments play a pivotal role in shaping societies and economies. Innovation and citizen inclusion are increasingly vital in government operations. The survey also revealed challenges in retaining skilled workers, with 68% highlighting this issue.
Technological Advancements and Challenges
Modern technologies like AI are expected to transform governmental operations significantly. Yet, fully harnessing these technologies requires investment in digital infrastructure and human capital development. Despite challenges, there's optimism about governments committed to transformation and innovation.
