GCAA Launches First National Regulation For Certifying Drone Air Navigation Service Providers
The UAE General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) has launched a pioneering regulation for certifying air navigation service providers for drones, called CAR Airspace Part Uspace. This regulation establishes a comprehensive framework to ensure organisations meet stringent operational and safety standards when providing drone air navigation services.
Saif Mohammed Al Suwaidi, Director-General of the GCAA, highlighted the importance of this development. He stated, "this regulation is not just about compliance; it is a testament to our commitment to safety, efficiency, and innovation in aviation."

The new regulation takes a holistic approach by covering all critical aspects of certifying drone air navigation service providers. It includes contracting, training, quality assurance, safety measures, future planning, auditing, and certification processes. This ensures that licensed entities can provide specialised services while maintaining a cohesive and safe airspace.
Aqeel Ahmed Al Zarouni, Assistant Director-General of Aviation Safety Affairs, stressed the regulation's role in safely integrating advanced drone technologies into UAE airspace. By establishing clear certification standards, it promotes high safety levels and professionalism while supporting industry growth.
The demand for unmanned aircraft operations is rising rapidly due to technological advancements and increased reliance on autonomous aerial systems. In the coming years, drone operations in the UAE are expected to double as these technologies evolve further.
This proactive regulatory framework aims to serve as a model for seamless integration between drones and commercial aviation. It reinforces the UAE's position as a regional leader in aviation by ensuring efficient and safe airspace management through licensed service providers.
As drone operations are poised to increase significantly soon, this regulation will play a crucial role in managing this growth effectively. It supports the UAE's vision of being at the forefront of innovative aviation practices by setting high standards for safety and professionalism.
