UAE: Future100 Initiative Set To Boost Entrepreneurial Ecosystem For SMEs Growth
The Future100 initiative is committed to boosting the growth of SMEs in the UAE's future economy sectors. It aims to create a robust investment ecosystem that aligns with technological progress and enhances economic opportunities. This effort seeks to transform the UAE's economy, establishing it as a global centre for innovation and entrepreneurship.
On 26-27 February, discussion sessions were held as part of Investopia 2025, under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan. These sessions included Alia bint Abdullah Al Mazrouei, Minister of State for Entrepreneurship, and Ohood bint Khalfan Al Roumi, Minister of State for Government Development and the Future. Entrepreneurs, startups, investment funds, business incubators, accelerators, and global technology companies participated.

The event featured 15 sessions with 48 speakers, including ministers and industry experts. Discussions centred on artificial intelligence, emerging technologies, tech-driven entrepreneurship, and innovative investment strategies. Other topics included supporting SMEs in expanding within the new economy and the significant role of female entrepreneurs in driving societal and economic impacts.
Alia Al Mazrouei highlighted that Future100 is crucial for SME growth in the UAE’s new economy. She noted that the UAE's leadership has created a competitive legislative framework attracting entrepreneurs worldwide. This framework provides essential initiatives for their success.
SMEs make up 94% of all businesses in the UAE, with 25,000 founded by Emirati youth in 2024 alone. The country hosts over 50 government and private business incubators and accelerators. According to the Global Entrepreneurship Monitor (GEM), it was recognised as the top global destination for business activities in 2024.
A session titled "Cisco Digital Innovation Award: Recognising Excellence in Innovation" showcased Cisco’s Product Innovation Lab. Launched with the Ministry of Economy, it aims to enhance SMEs’ capabilities through innovative solutions. Bassam Shaker from Creative Advanced Technologies participated.
The session "Empowered and Enabled: Women Entrepreneurs Driving Impact" explored women's roles in entrepreneurship. It discussed balancing professional and family life while emphasising investment opportunities supporting women in business. Participants included Maha Al Gergawi from Dubai Chambers and Salama Al Amimi from Abu Dhabi's Family Care Authority.
A closed session titled "DHL Forward Challenge" highlighted its winners with discussions on innovations reshaping logistics through digital transformation. Participants included Irina Albanese from DHL Middle East & Africa Innovation Center and Anjan Kumar from Greendzine.
"Investing in Tomorrow: Unlocking the UAE’s New Economy Potential" examined strategies to expand businesses in future economy sectors like AI and financial technology. Speakers included Walid Mansour from Middle East Venture Partners and Julian Plozo from Eurasia Capital.
The event concluded with "Catalysts of Success: Investment Stories That Shape the Future100." Entrepreneurs shared their journeys securing funding and accelerating growth. Participants included Tarek Othman from Abro Company and Haitham Al-Riyahi from Sirka Biotech.
A session titled "Funding the Future: Innovative Models for SME Finance" addressed how SMEs can secure financing for advanced technologies. Speakers discussed technology's role in simplifying financing processes through strategic partnerships creating a dynamic ecosystem.
Sarah Shaw noted that companies within Future100 were among the first to receive Majra's Sustainable Impact Project Seal for sustainability commitment. There was a 43% increase in sustainability-focused startup applications under Future100, aligning with UAE Green Agenda 2030.
The opening session featured Alia Al Mazrouei alongside Sarah Shaw from Majra discussing empowering enterprises in future economy sectors. They explored strategies supporting entrepreneurship while reinforcing UAE’s status as a global business hub.
A session titled "Coming of Age: Technology and Entrepreneurship Are Changing MENA" examined emerging markets' transformation through innovation reshaping regional economies highlighting success stories challenges opportunities ahead.
