Reem Al Hashimy highlighted the UAE's vision for enhanced collaboration with Brazil in areas like trade, renewable energy, and innovation. Al Hashimy outlined the UAE’s strategic goals within BRICS, focusing on strengthening economic ties with member states. She emphasized reinforcing the UAE's position as a global economic hub and expanding its network of strategic partnerships. This engagement reflects the UAE's broader foreign policy of promoting cultural multilateralism and constructive international engagement.
The minister reiterated the UAE’s commitment to tripling global renewable energy capacity by 2030. This aligns with the UAE Consensus from COP28 in Dubai in 2023. Al Hashimy discussed initiatives like joint ventures in solar energy and strategic minerals. She also mentioned a January 2025 Memorandum of Understanding aimed at boosting investment and technology transfer in critical sectors such as mineral processing and green energy.
Al Hashimy stressed people-to-people connections as crucial for long-term bilateral engagement between the UAE and Brazil. Educational, cultural, and professional exchanges were cited as key tools for strengthening ties. These connections form a foundation for enduring relationships between nations.
The fireside chat was moderated by journalist Catherine Osborn, a foreign correspondent in Brazil. FGV President Carlos Ivan Simonsen Leal opened the event by emphasizing education's role in fostering cooperation and understanding. He highlighted FGV's commitment to promoting strategic partnerships that connect Brazil with key regions worldwide.
