Federal Tax Authority's Hackathon Unveils Tech Innovations For Enhanced Tax Services
As part of the UAE Innovation Month festivities, the Federal Tax Authority (FTA) recently held a Hackathon in collaboration with SAP, a global leader in technology and applications, at the Dubai Youth Hub located within the Emirates Towers. This event marked a significant step towards digital transformation, showcasing a blend of innovative projects and technological solutions designed to tackle various challenges within the tax sector. The initiative aimed at enhancing tax awareness, simplifying procedures for small and medium enterprises, and combating tax evasion through the use of advanced technology.
The Hackathon witnessed the submission of 15 projects from a diverse group of participants, including developers, programmers, university students, entrepreneurs, business owners, government representatives, and community members knowledgeable in tax policies and financial legislation. This diversity brought forth a wide array of innovative ideas and high-quality projects aimed at improving the tax service ecosystem in the UAE.

Khalid Ali Al Bustani, Director General of the Federal Tax Authority, highlighted the importance of these initiatives. He stated that such events are crucial for leveraging advanced technology to enhance the tax service ecosystem in the UAE. Al Bustani emphasized the role of the Hackathon in promoting innovation and collaboration among various stakeholders in government, private sectors, and educational institutions. He reaffirmed the FTA's commitment to implementing innovative projects that align with global standards for efficient tax solutions.
The FTA plans to evaluate the submitted projects to identify the top three innovative solutions. The evaluation criteria will focus on creativity, innovation, data utilization in solution design, solution quality, usability, design quality, provision of a prototype, technological implementation, impact, benefits, feasibility, and a viable plan for further development and expansion. This process aims to explore potential collaboration opportunities with the creators of the winning projects to further enhance the tax system in the UAE.
This initiative by the FTA not only underscores its dedication to digital transformation but also highlights its efforts to foster a culture of innovation and collaboration across various sectors. By harnessing talent and innovative ideas from diverse backgrounds, the FTA aims to proactively address challenges and improve the tax service ecosystem for all stakeholders involved.
