FAO Celebrates 80 Years Of Leadership In Sustainable Agriculture At Abu Dhabi Global Food Week
The Food and Agriculture Organisation of the United Nations (FAO) is set to mark its 80th anniversary by participating as a strategic partner in the second edition of Abu Dhabi Global Food Week. This event will be held at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre from 21st to 23rd October 2025. FAO's involvement is spearheaded by its Subregional Office for the Gulf Cooperation Council States and Yemen, located in Abu Dhabi.
FAO's participation this year holds particular importance as it aligns with eight decades of leadership in transforming agrifood systems, fighting hunger, and promoting sustainable agriculture. The organisation will collaborate closely with the United Arab Emirates, a key supporter of food security and agricultural innovation in the region.

During the event, FAO will lead high-level discussions focusing on climate-smart agriculture, sustainable management of natural resources, and livestock health. These dialogues aim to address pressing issues in agriculture and food security. Additionally, FAO plans to showcase how artificial intelligence and data analytics can predict potential supply and demand disruptions.
Dr. Ahmad Mukhtar, FAO Representative ad interim to the UAE, stated, "As FAO marks 80 years of service to humanity, our participation in Abu Dhabi Global Food Week reaffirms our ongoing commitment to accelerating innovation, enhancing climate resilience, and delivering data-driven solutions to support food systems at both national and global levels."
FAO's collaboration with the Abu Dhabi Agriculture and Food Safety Authority has resulted in strategic initiatives that bolster national food security. This partnership positions Abu Dhabi as a global centre for agricultural innovation and sustainability. Dr. Tariq Ahmed Al Ameri, Acting Director-General of ADAFSA, congratulated FAO on its milestone anniversary.
He remarked that FAO’s involvement in Global Food Week underscores their strong partnership which has facilitated pioneering initiatives across the region. This collaboration provides a platform for exchanging knowledge on climate-smart agriculture, resource management, and improving food supply chains.
Commitment to Food Security
The UAE takes pride in this constructive collaboration with FAO. It reflects their dedication to supporting international efforts towards achieving food security. Furthermore, it reinforces Abu Dhabi’s status as a global hub for agricultural innovation and a preferred venue for hosting specialised events that gather experts worldwide.
Dr. Mukhtar added that FAO's engagement extends beyond reflecting on its legacy; it actively contributes to shaping future agrifood systems through high-level dialogues on crucial topics like climate-smart agriculture and sustainable resource management.
The organisation will also present findings from its flagship report, "The State of Food Security and Nutrition in the World." This report supports evidence-based policymaking at national and regional levels amid climate change challenges.
This year's participation highlights FAO's enduring commitment to fostering innovation and resilience within global food systems while celebrating its significant achievements over eight decades.
