Expo Centre Sharjah Sets Sights On Expansion To Attract Global Exhibitors And Spur Economic Growth

Expo Centre Sharjah (ECS) has recently announced a series of ambitious projects and initiatives aimed at fostering the growth of the exhibitions sector and, consequently, driving Sharjah’s economic development. These initiatives are focused on expanding operational capacities, increasing exhibition areas, attracting a wider array of international exhibitors, and launching new high-quality exhibitions, with a special emphasis on the automotive industry. This strategic direction was discussed during a meeting of the ECS Board of Directors, chaired by Abdullah Sultan Al Owais, who is also the Chairman of the Sharjah Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI).

The meeting, which also saw the presence of Sheikh Majid bin Faisal Al Qasimi, First Deputy Chairman of SCCI, Walid Abdul Rahman Bukhatir, Second Deputy Chairman of the Sharjah Chamber, and Saif Mohammed Al Midfa, CEO of Expo Centre Sharjah, among others, highlighted the Centre's performance in 2023. Notably, there was a significant increase in visitor numbers to over 2.5 million and a rise in both local and international events to around 50 exhibitions. The ECS has maintained this momentum into the first quarter of 2024, organizing specialized exhibitions across various sectors.

Sharjah Expo Centre Eyes Expansion

Officials reviewed Expo Sharjah's positive outcomes over the last three years, particularly in sales and marketing. The discussions also covered plans to expand exhibition areas as part of a broader strategy to enhance operational workflows and support Sharjah's economic sectors. This includes boosting retail and industrial growth and promoting local products.

The meeting underscored the importance of supporting small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) within the exhibition sector. Success stories from platforms such as "Emirates Perfumes and Oud" and "Jewels of Emirates", hosted by ECS during events like the Watch & Jewellery Middle East Show and the Emirates Perfumes and Oud Exhibition, were highlighted as examples of ECS’s commitment to nurturing entrepreneurial ventures.

Abdullah Sultan Al Owais emphasized ECS's pivotal role in achieving Sharjah’s economic diversification goals. He noted that the Centre’s success in attracting thousands of local and international visitors positions it as a leading business hub. Saif Mohammed Al Midfa echoed these sentiments, stating that the resurgence of the exhibition industry plays a crucial role in economic development. He expressed optimism about ECS's future in organizing diverse events.

The board also discussed achievements from the ECS Calendar of Events for 2024, focusing on key exhibitions in the first quarter of the year such as the Watch & Jewellery Middle East Show and the Sharjah Real Estate Exhibition - ACRES 2024. Additionally, they reviewed preliminary results from monitoring the performance of Ramadan Nights Exhibition, highlighting its impact on retail enhancement and domestic tourism promotion during the Sharjah Ramadan Festival.

In summary, Expo Centre Sharjah is set on a strategic path to not only enhance its standing as a premier exhibition venue but also contribute significantly to Sharjah’s broader economic objectives. Through expanding its offerings and supporting SMEs, ECS aims to foster an environment conducive to business growth and innovation.
