IGCF 2024: Communication Key To Directing Emirati Talent And Attracting FDI

Local officials from various sectors have highlighted the growing importance of social media and new communication platforms in guiding local talents into the UAE’s industrial sector. These platforms are also fostering trust between consumers and the industrial sector while creating new opportunities for attracting foreign direct investments (FDI).

During a panel on the second day of the International Government Communication Forum (IGCF 2024), speakers discussed leveraging strategic communication to drive UAE’s industrial growth. The event, organised by UAQ Chamber of Commerce & Industry, was titled ‘The Role of Communication in Strengthening National Industry’.

Communication Drives Talent and FDI

Ghannam Al Mazrouei, Secretary General of the Emirati Talent Competitiveness Council (Nafis), emphasised the role of communication in changing perceptions about the private sector among Emiratis. He noted that through various mediums, including social media, they reached Emirati talent during the pandemic and reshaped their views on working in the private sector. "Since then, we’ve seen a remarkable increase, with over 114,000 Emirati youth joining the sector since the initiative’s launch," he said.

Ammar Al Alili, Director General of the UAQ Chamber of Commerce & Industry, discussed how communication tools have been crucial in attracting investors to the UAE. He stated that these tools helped market the emirate’s infrastructure, incentives, and flexible legal framework. "Communication has been central to promoting our emirate and its facilities, leading to the growth of industry and the establishment of over 13,000 factories in UAQ," he said.

Ibtisam AlSaadi, Director of Industrial Policies and Legislation at the Ministry of Industry and Advanced Technology, highlighted using influencers and reliable communication channels to share vital information about UAE’s industrial achievements. She said: "Communication is key in ensuring the public receives accurate information from trusted sources. Through initiatives like ‘Make it in the Emirates,’ we are showcasing our capabilities and promoting Emirati talent to the world."

The panellists stressed that effective communication will remain essential in fostering collaboration between public and private sectors. This collaboration supports innovation and maintains UAE’s leadership in sustainable industrial development.

The government of UAQ has expanded its industrial zone to cover an area of 10 million square feet with a factory occupancy rate of 96%. This expansion has significantly boosted the emirate’s industrial sector.

In conclusion, strategic communication plays a pivotal role in enhancing UAE's global reputation and integrating local talent into private and industrial sectors. The use of social media and other emerging platforms continues to be instrumental in these efforts.
