Etihad Cargo Celebrates One Year Of Successful Operations In Japan With Significant Growth
Etihad Cargo, the logistics division of Etihad Airways, marks a year of successful operations in Osaka, Japan. Over this period, the airline has strengthened its foothold in Japan, contributing to the nation's economic growth. In 2024, Etihad Cargo managed 7,440 tonnes of cargo from Japan, with 2,911 tonnes passing through Osaka. This represents 39.1% of the carrier's total tonnage in the country.
The airline operates ten weekly flights from Japan—three from Osaka and seven from Tokyo—connecting over 100 global destinations via Abu Dhabi. This expansion highlights Etihad Cargo's commitment to providing reliable airfreight solutions. The company aims to support Japan's growing market and meet evolving logistics needs.

Etihad Cargo has made significant progress in digital transformation within Japan. In 2024, electronic Air Waybill (e-AWB) usage reached 90% in Osaka and 87% across Japan. Additionally, online portal bookings accounted for 9.53% of total bookings in Japan and 3.31% in Osaka, indicating a shift towards digital solutions for improved efficiency.
The past year saw remarkable product growth for Etihad Cargo in Japan. The AirMail service experienced a 125.8% increase year-on-year, with Osaka alone seeing a 208% rise. Currently, Osaka contributes to 39% of Japan's total AirMail tonnage.

Key Commodities and SecureTech Product
The airline plays an essential role in transporting key commodities from Japan, supporting various industries. These include automotive parts, electronics, machinery parts, and gaming consoles shipped via Etihad Cargo's IATA CEIV-LiBatt-certified SecureTech product.
Osaka has seen strong uptake of the SecureTech product for safely transporting high-value lithium battery-powered electronics. It now accounts for 20.8% of Japan's total SecureTech tonnage.
Diverse Goods Handled Through Osaka
In addition to electronics and automotive parts, Etihad Cargo handles large volumes of textile raw materials and ship parts in Osaka. This reflects the diverse nature of goods transported through the region.
The airline’s achievements over the past year underscore its dedication to innovation and reliability as it continues to support the Japanese market's growth while adapting to changing logistics demands.
