Erth Zayed Philanthropies Board Reviews Achievements And Approves Future Strategic Direction For 2024
Under the leadership of H.H. Sheikh Theyab bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the Board of Erth Zayed Philanthropies convened to discuss its 2024 impact and future strategies. The foundation, along with its affiliates, has been working to enhance its global humanitarian and development efforts, aiming to support millions worldwide.
H.H. Sheikh Theyab highlighted the foundation's commitment to impactful programmes that align with President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan's directives. These initiatives are overseen by His Highness Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan and contribute to global priorities like the UN Sustainable Development Goals.
The Board reviewed significant achievements from its affiliates, including AED1.4 billion allocated across 222 programmes in healthcare, education, environmental conservation, food systems, and economic opportunities. An additional AED2.4 billion is earmarked for future projects expected to benefit over 450 million people globally.
Erth Zayed Philanthropies secured more than AED2.5 billion in international partner commitments for joint humanitarian and development initiatives. This reflects a growing global alignment with its mission driven by values.
In 2024, AED321 million was dedicated to health-related projects. Notable achievements include large-scale vaccination campaigns reaching children in Pakistan, Afghanistan, and Gaza. The Reaching the Last Mile Fund expanded efforts to eliminate two neglected tropical diseases in Africa and Yemen, benefiting over 400 million people.
Education received AED232 million across more than 20 countries. Programmes supported inclusive learning for children of determination and early years education. A scholarship initiative covered fees for 11,000 students from low-income families in the UAE.
Sustainable Agriculture and Economic Empowerment
Sustainable agriculture and food security initiatives amounted to AED116 million, reaching over 2 million people across Africa and South America. This included support for displaced populations in Uganda and seasonal aid during Ramadan in more than 10 countries.
Economic empowerment programmes aided nearly 900,000 individuals through training, financial access, and livelihood support. These efforts particularly focused on women, young people, and micro-entrepreneurs.
Environmental Conservation Efforts
Over AED410 million was directed toward biodiversity protection, freshwater ecosystem revitalisation, and clean water access. Programmes led by Clean Rivers and the Mohamed Bin Zayed Species Conservation Fund focused on urgent recovery and long-term resilience.
Rezan Khalifa Al Mubarak stated that empowering local communities leads to sustainable conservation efforts: "Protecting biodiversity and nature is integral to human survival and environmental balance."
Community Engagement Initiatives
The Active Abu Dhabi initiative mobilised over 75,000 volunteers in 2024. They reached more than 320,000 people through community service, youth engagement, and public wellbeing campaigns.
Ahmed Al Shamsi noted that these community programmes reflect the UAE’s enduring spirit of solidarity: "Voluntary work contributes to the well-being of the community."
