ERRA Strengthens Creators' Rights Through New Agreements With India And Hong Kong
The Emirates Reprographic Rights Management Association (ERRA) has recently formed alliances with the Indian Reprographic Rights Organisation and the Hong Kong Reprographic Rights Licensing Society. These agreements aim to protect creators' rights and enhance international partnerships in reprographic rights protection. This initiative follows the successful International Reprographic Rights Conference held in Sharjah, which set the stage for these global collaborations.
The collaboration between these organisations is designed to facilitate the exchange of protected creative content. This ensures that authors and publishers are fairly compensated for their work. The agreements reflect a commitment to compensating rights holders in India and Hong Kong while developing efficient mechanisms to safeguard intellectual property amid digital challenges.

Majd Al Shehhi, Director of ERRA, emphasised the importance of this collaboration in protecting creators' rights both locally and internationally. She highlighted its role in raising awareness about reprographic rights, which are crucial for advancing the publishing sector and supporting creativity. "This partnership marks a significant step towards empowering creators to monetise their intellectual output fairly and sustainably," she stated.
Al Shehhi further noted that strengthening international cooperation is vital for ensuring the sustainability of the publishing sector. It also fosters creativity in the digital era, which requires innovative strategies for intellectual property protection. This initiative reinforces ERRA’s position as a key player in supporting the creative economy and expanding its global network with organisations dedicated to reprographic rights protection.
Pranav Gupta from the Indian Reprographic Rights Organisation expressed enthusiasm about this agreement. He stated, "This initiative is a major boost for international cooperation in protecting authors' and publishers' rights." He believes that exchanging intellectual assets will help creators expand their reach globally while ensuring they receive rightful earnings in international markets.
Commitment to Advancing Global Publishing
Similarly, Wong Sharon, Executive Director of the Hong Kong Reprographic Rights Licensing Society, stressed that this agreement underscores a shared commitment among all parties involved. Their goal is to protect creators’ rights and advance the global publishing industry. The collaboration aims to explore new avenues for safeguarding writers' and publishers' rights worldwide.
This partnership not only strengthens ERRA's role but also highlights its dedication to fostering creativity through fair compensation models. By working together with international counterparts, ERRA aims to ensure sustainable growth within the creative industries while adapting to digital advancements.
