Emirates Red Crescent Launches Projects To Aid Earthquake-Affected Syrians
The Emirates Red Crescent Authority (ERC) has embarked on a new chapter of its developmental endeavours in Syria's Latakia Governorate, targeting the upliftment of families impacted by the devastating earthquake that hit the region in February of the previous year. This initiative marks a significant step towards facilitating the governorate's path to recovery and resilience.
In a significant move, a delegation led by Hamoud Abdullah Al Junaibi, the Deputy Secretary-General for Local Affairs at ERC, alongside Hasan Al Shehhi, the UAE Ambassador to Syria; Amer Ismail Hilal, Governor of Latakia; and various Syrian officials, officially launched several projects. These initiatives are designed to empower the affected communities by enhancing their capabilities and ensuring sustainable development.

Among the inaugurated projects is an irrigation scheme located in the village of Al-Musheirfeh, part of the Wadi Al-Qalaa municipality in Jableh. This project is set to irrigate 660 dunums of agricultural land, providing a reliable water source for over 3,500 individuals engaged in farming activities. Additionally, the introduction of solar-powered water tanks and livestock breeding projects are part of this comprehensive development plan.
In a further boost to their collaborative efforts, the ERC and the Syrian Trust for Development have entered into a cooperation agreement spanning various humanitarian, relief, and developmental sectors. This partnership underscores a mutual commitment to supporting Syria's recovery and sustainable development.
Al Junaibi highlighted that these newly launched projects are an extension of the ERC's ongoing initiatives across key sectors such as health, education, and housing within Syria. These efforts are reflective of the UAE's broader objective to support the Syrian populace in overcoming the challenges posed by the earthquake and enhancing their living standards.
"The projects we are inaugurating today signify not only a new phase but also a strategic shift in our approach towards supporting the Syrian people," Al Junaibi stated. He emphasized that these initiatives aim at fostering sustainability and empowering affected families by equipping them with necessary production means. This approach is intended to compensate for their losses incurred during the disaster, address their basic needs, and promote self-sufficiency.
Al Junaibi also disclosed plans for implementing numerous other initiatives aimed at bolstering support for the Syrian people in the forthcoming period. This announcement underscores ERC's commitment to its long-term vision of aiding Syria's recovery and sustainable development post-earthquake.
The concerted efforts by ERC and its partners reflect a deep-seated commitment to humanitarian aid and development. Through these projects, ERC aims not only to rebuild what was lost but also to instil hope and provide a foundation for a prosperous future for those affected by the earthquake in Latakia Governorate.
