Emma Raducanu To Compete In Landmark Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships 2024
Emma Raducanu, the former US Open champion, is set to debut at the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships. The Grand Slam winner has received a wildcard for the 25th anniversary of this World Tennis Association (WTA) Tour event. Raducanu made history at the 2021 US Open by becoming the youngest Grand Slam singles winner since Maria Sharapova's Wimbledon victory in 2004.
Raducanu's triumph in New York marked her as the first qualifier in the Open Era to win a major championship. She also became the first British female to win the tournament since Virginia Wade in 1968. Currently ranked No. 60 globally, Raducanu recently participated in both the Qatar Open and Abu Dhabi Open.

Ramesh Cidambi, Managing Director of Dubai Duty Free and Chairman of the Tournament’s Organising Committee, expressed excitement about Raducanu's participation. "We are delighted to welcome Emma to the emirate for the first time as she competes in a landmark WTA edition of the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships. With one Grand Slam title to her name, Emma has underlined the talent she has and is a welcome addition to what is already a world-class field."
Salah Tahlak, Tournament Director and Deputy Managing Director of Dubai Duty Free, echoed these sentiments. "It’s fantastic to see Emma participating in the WTA Tour event in Dubai for the first time. It’s clear for all to see that Emma possesses an enormous amount of talent and we look forward to watching her on court at this year’s Championships."
This year's women's tournament holds special significance as it celebrates its 25th anniversary, marking a key milestone in regional tennis development. Italian Jasmine Paolini will return to defend her title but faces tough competition from a strong lineup that includes nine of the top ten players worldwide.
The tournament promises intense competition with 36 of the world's top 40 players participating in this WTA 1000 event. This year's edition is expected to be one of its most competitive draws ever.
The action on court kicks off on Sunday, 16 February, with Dubai hosting its week-long WTA 1000 tournament. Following this, the ATP 500 event will commence on 24 February.
