Emirates SkyCargo Expands Network With New Freighter Service To Narita International Airport In Japan
Emirates SkyCargo has introduced a dedicated weekly freighter service to Narita International Airport (NRT), expanding its freighter network to 38 destinations. This marks the first direct and scheduled freighter link between Narita and the Middle East, facilitating quicker shipments. Japan's diverse manufacturing sector makes it a key market for Emirates SkyCargo, which already operates twice-weekly freighters to Kansai International Airport (KIX).
The new service to Narita will add 100 tonnes of cargo capacity each way. Expected shipments include automobile parts, machinery components, semiconductor parts, and advanced pharmaceuticals. These goods will be transported efficiently through the airline’s comprehensive product portfolio. Narita International Airport is Japan's largest air- or seaport by cargo value and is set to become a leading regional cargo hub by the decade's end due to ongoing investments in the 'New Narita Airport' Development Plan.

Badr Abbas, Emirates SkyCargo’s Divisional Senior Vice President, stated that expanding their freighter network is crucial for their 10-year strategic plan. With the arrival of new Boeing 777 freighters, they can access new markets with increased capacity. "Demand for our world-class product and services has been steadily growing in Narita," he said. Pharmaceuticals and consumer electronics are transported in the bellyhold of daily passenger flights, while larger shipments like machinery parts were previously sent to KIX.
The introduction of this freighter allows better support for global customers with direct connectivity through Dubai while enhancing operations in Japan. Emirates SkyCargo serves four destinations across East and Southeast Asia with 57 dedicated freighter flights weekly, alongside over 290 passenger flights each week. This extensive frequency makes East Asia one of the airline’s busiest regions.
Further expansion is anticipated with additional passenger routes opening between Dubai and Siem Reap, Cambodia; Da Nang, Vietnam; and Shenzhen, China in the coming months. Effective from 24th May 2025, flight EK9413 will arrive at Narita International Airport on Saturdays at 01:00 AM UTC and depart for Dubai World Central at 03:00 AM UTC.
This development underscores Emirates SkyCargo's commitment to enhancing its global reach and meeting growing demand in key markets like Japan. The strategic addition of Narita as a destination strengthens their position in East Asia while offering improved service options for customers worldwide.
