Emirates To Resume Flights To Damascus Starting 16th July 2025 After Long Suspension

Emirates is resuming flights to Damascus starting 16th July 2025, after halting operations in 2012. The decision follows a thorough assessment with the UAE General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA). Initially, three weekly flights will operate on Monday, Wednesday, and Sunday. From 2nd August, an additional Saturday flight will be added, increasing to four weekly services. Daily flights are planned from 26th October.

The airline's return to Damascus is significant for Syria's connectivity and economic recovery. H.H. Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, Chairman and Chief Executive of Emirates Airline and Group, stated, "Emirates is pleased to restart operations to Damascus and support Syria’s road ahead by providing better choice and connectivity, essential economic links for inwards investment as well as opening new trade lanes and global market access for the country."

Emirates' services will use a Boeing 777-200LR with 302 seats. This move aims to enhance travel options for passengers connecting through Emirates' network of nearly 150 destinations. It also supports the UAE's initiatives to strengthen bilateral relations and aid Syria's reconstruction efforts in sectors like energy, construction, and agriculture.

The airline's return is welcomed by the Syrian diaspora across the Americas, Europe, and the GCC. Many are eager to reconnect with their homeland and contribute their skills to ongoing development projects. The reestablishment of air travel is expected to facilitate these connections.

Emirates' customers flying to Damascus can also benefit from its codeshare agreement with flydubai. This partnership enhances flight schedules, offering more convenience for travellers entering or leaving the Syrian capital.

Before suspending operations in 2012, Emirates had been serving Damascus since 1988. During this period, over 2.1 million passengers were transported between Syria and other destinations. Currently, Emirates operates flights to 13 cities within the Middle East/GCC region with a total of 191 weekly flights.

The airline expressed gratitude towards Syrian authorities for their cooperation in restoring connectivity between Dubai and Damascus. They anticipate strengthening ties through regular operations that will boost links to and from Syria.

This strategic move by Emirates not only opens up new travel opportunities but also aligns with broader efforts to attract foreign investment into Syria's key industries. By reintroducing these flights, Emirates aims to play a pivotal role in supporting Syria's aspirations for growth and development.
