Emirates Unveils Next Phase Of Fleet Retrofit Programme For A380s And Boeing 777s
Emirates is advancing its retrofit programme, targeting 60 A380s and 51 Boeing 777s for cabin upgrades. From August 2026, these aircraft will feature new onboard products, an immersive in-flight entertainment system, and enhanced Wi-Fi connectivity through Starlink. This initiative is part of Emirates' broader fleet modernisation strategy.
Emirates Engineering collaborates with Airbus, Safran, Recaro, Panasonic, Starlink, and UUDS to introduce the latest seating designs and a new onboard lounge on 60 A380s. These enhancements will be paired with Panasonic's advanced Astrova inflight entertainment system to ensure a consistent passenger experience across the next 111 aircraft set for retrofit.

The airline has been pivotal in driving product innovation by working closely with aircraft manufacturers and suppliers. This collaboration aims to enhance passenger comfort, privacy, and the overall travel experience. Sir Tim Clark, President of Emirates Airline, stated: "Emirates’ retrofit programme is about continuously elevating standards across our entire fleet. Working with our long-standing partners, we're taking this commitment a step further with the aim of delivering product consistency at scale, in tandem with next-generation innovations in seating, entertainment, and connectivity being brought into service with our newly delivered fleet."
Panasonic Avionics has been chosen by Emirates to upgrade its in-flight entertainment (IFE) products on both the A380 and Boeing 777s using the Astrova platform. This decision underscores the airline’s dedication to providing next-generation experiences for passengers.
Initially announced in 2021 for 120 aircraft refurbishment, Emirates expanded its retrofit programme to include 191 aircraft by May 2024. Later that year, it was further scaled up to encompass 219 aircraft. This expansion highlights Emirates' commitment to delivering exceptional experiences throughout its fleet.
So far, 76 aircraft have been refurbished under this programme. Each A380 takes around 22 days for retrofitting while each Boeing 777 requires about 18 days. The programme maintains a steady pace with two newly refurbished aircraft being completed each month.
This extensive retrofit initiative reflects Emirates' ongoing investment in its products and services. By continuously upgrading its fleet, the airline aims to offer passengers an elevated travel experience marked by comfort and innovation.
