Emirates Airlines Showcases Innovations For Accessible Travel At AccessAbilities Expo In Dubai
Emirates Airlines has introduced a range of new services and product enhancements for travellers with disabilities. This was announced at the 7th AccessAbilities Expo held at the Dubai World Trade Centre. The airline aims to promote accessible and inclusive travel through these initiatives.
Among the significant developments is the Accessible and Inclusive Travel Hub on emirates.com. This platform serves as a comprehensive resource for passengers with various accessibility needs, offering tailored information for mobility, visual, hearing, and hidden disabilities. It also includes sections dedicated to family and medical travel.

Starting 1st November 2025, Emirates will introduce sensory products and fidget toys onboard to assist neurodivergent passengers and nervous flyers in managing overstimulation. These items include tactile stress relievers, fidget cubes, and aircraft-shaped poppers. Business Class will feature a new ‘mattress hood’ designed to enhance comfort for passengers with limited mobility.
The inflight entertainment system, ice, now includes over 600 films with closed captions and 200 with audio descriptions. Emirates headphones are compatible with hearing aids. Onboard its Airbus A350-900 aircraft, a redesigned interface supports audio cues, voice feedback, and gesture navigation for customers with visual impairments.
At Dubai International Airport (DXB), Terminal 3 now features a barrier-free smart corridor equipped with adaptive biometrics. Enhanced self-service kiosks include braille, headphone jacks, and adjustable height screens. Additionally, Emirates has introduced a prototype wheelchair-accessible Chauffeur Drive vehicle, planning to expand this fleet to 10 by early 2026.
The airline's innovation teams are working on accessible travel technologies. A potential collaboration with Airbus aims to introduce discreet QR codes providing audio and haptic cabin guidance for passengers who are blind or have low vision.
Commitment to Inclusive Travel
Emirates became the world’s first Autism Certified Airline in March 2025. Over 35,000 staff members have been trained to assist travellers with autism. Initiatives like Travel Rehearsal allow customers to familiarise themselves with airport procedures beforehand.
The Office of Accessibility and Inclusion at Emirates continues to design travel experiences that uphold dignity and independence for all passengers. This effort sets new benchmarks for inclusive aviation while reinforcing Dubai’s position as a global leader in accessible travel.
The Accessible Travel Hub allows customers to plan their journey by disability or stage of travel. It covers the full experience from booking to arrival, offering tools such as an autism-friendly travel guide and sensory maps of Dubai International Airport.
Emirates remains committed to leading industry standards in accessibility through continuous innovation and development of accessible travel solutions.
