Sharjah Executive Council Transfers Elderly Transportation Service From Police To Social Services Department
The Sharjah Executive Council (SEC) convened its regular meeting, led by H.H. Sheikh Abdullah bin Salem Al Qasimi, Deputy Ruler of Sharjah. H.H. Sheikh Sultan bin Ahmed Al Qasimi also attended. The session was held at the Ruler's Office, focusing on enhancing government operations and service quality across the emirate.
During the meeting, a significant decision was made to transfer the elderly transportation service from Sharjah Police to the Sharjah Social Services Department (SSSD). This move aims to better address the needs of older residents, demonstrating Sharjah's dedication to providing top-notch community services. The transition includes transferring all associated rights, responsibilities, assets, and resources to SSSD.
The Council reviewed the 2024 achievements of the Sharjah Economic Development Department. The report revealed a 6% increase in new business licences and a 7% rise in total licences and renewals. Additionally, department revenues saw an 11% growth compared to last year. These figures reflect a positive trend in economic activities within the emirate.

It also addressed important topics such as the National Licence Index, foreign ownership guidelines, and commercial protection measures. Efforts have been made to enhance customer experiences through improved electronic services and staff training.
The Council discussed a report on Sharjah's celebrations for the UAE's 53rd Union Day. Events were held across different cities in the emirate, showcasing cultural heritage through decorations, media promotions, social media posts, radio ads, and engaging workshops for visitors. These activities highlighted Sharjah's cultural richness and tourism potential.
Sharjah National Park served as the main venue for these celebrations, attracting over 188,000 visitors. Contributions came from 15 government departments and 40 local families selling goods. Additionally, there were 20 food carts offering treats and a dedicated area for traditional food.
The SEC remains committed to improving government departments' performance while enhancing service quality for residents throughout Sharjah. By focusing on economic development and cultural celebrations, they aim to foster a thriving community that values both progress and tradition.
