Egypt And Turkiye Seek To Ease Middle East Tensions Amidst Regional Challenges

Egypt's President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi met with Turkish Minister of Foreign Affairs Hakan Fidan and his delegation. The meeting included Egypt's Minister of Foreign Affairs Dr. Badr Abdel-Aty and the Turkish Ambassador in Cairo. The Turkish foreign minister conveyed greetings from Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, which President El-Sisi appreciated.

The discussions centred on recent regional developments and the escalating tensions in the Middle East. President El-Sisi emphasised that the region is at a critical juncture, necessitating utmost self-restraint and rationality. He highlighted that defusing tensions requires concerted efforts from active forces and the international community to implement an immediate ceasefire in Gaza.

Easing Middle East Tensions

President El-Sisi reiterated Egypt's warnings about the dangers of expanding the conflict, which threatens regional and global peace and security. He stressed that such expansion jeopardises the stability and security of regional populations. The Egyptian President also noted that Egypt has consistently cautioned against such risks.

During the meeting, both sides condemned Israeli escalation policies and aligned their views on the severity of the regional situation. They reviewed Egypt's intensified efforts to broker a ceasefire agreement and facilitate the exchange of captives. President El-Sisi underscored that regional developments should not hinder humanitarian aid access to Palestinians in Gaza, who face dire living conditions.

The necessity of advancing a comprehensive solution to the Palestinian issue was confirmed during discussions. Both parties agreed on the importance of establishing a Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital, based on 1967 borders. This solution aims to achieve lasting justice, security, and stability in the region.

The meeting concluded with a shared understanding of the need for political and diplomatic solutions to address ongoing conflicts. Both sides recognised that sustainable peace can only be achieved through collaborative international efforts.
