Over 7,300 Students Benefit From EGA's Engineer The Future STEM Programme
Emirates Global Aluminium (EGA) announced that its Engineer the Future programme engaged over 7,300 students from 29 schools during the 2023-2024 academic year. This initiative introduces UAE school students to practical applications of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) in industry.
The programme targets students from grades nine to 12, aiming to inspire them to pursue STEM careers through interactive learning and workshops. It includes a practical competition called 'The EGA Aluminium Design and Innovation Challenge'. This year, over 160 student teams participated, using STEM applications to tackle challenges in sustainable mobility, architecture, product design, and green solutions with aluminium.

Abdulnasser Bin Kalban, CEO of EGA, emphasised the importance of STEM for the UAE's Operation 300bn industrial growth strategy. He stated, "Science, technology, engineering and mathematics are all essential for the UAE's achievement of the national Operation 300bn industrial growth strategy. At EGA, we are committed to driving innovation and inspiring youth to play an active role in the development of the UAE's industries and the growth of our knowledge-based economy. I am pleased to see more young people engage in EGA's Engineer the Future STEM programme, and I encourage more schools to take part in this initiative."
Mohammed Al Qassim, Director-General of Emirates Schools Establishment, highlighted their commitment to strategic partnerships with national organisations like EGA. He said, "The establishment is committed to building strategic partnerships with leading national organisations for the development of students. EGA plays a significant role in upskilling students in science, technology, engineering and mathematics fields through a wide range of programmes and initiatives." He added that Engineer the Future is a leading programme for fostering innovation and preparing youth for future job opportunities.
The UAE stands out globally as one of the few countries where more women than men graduate from university in STEM fields. In fact, over 55 percent of participants in last year's programme were female. Since its inception in 2017, Engineer the Future has reached more than 30,000 students.
EGA's Role in Employment
EGA employs around 1,500 professionals in STEM fields, including over 500 UAE nationals. This highlights their significant role as an employer within these sectors.
The collaboration between EGA and Emirates Schools Establishment supports educational efforts and ensures continuity throughout the academic year. This partnership benefits both students' development and the broader education sector.
This initiative not only promotes STEM education but also aligns with national goals for industrial growth and innovation. By engaging young minds early on, it helps build a skilled workforce ready for future challenges.
