EAD Signs Pledge To Support UAE's Climate Action And Net Zero Goals
The Environment Agency – Abu Dhabi (EAD) has committed to joining the Advisory Committee of the UAE Alliance for Climate Action (UACA) to support the nation's net-zero ambitions. UACA, launched at COP27 by Emirates Nature-WWF, aims to foster collaboration and create a supportive policy environment for decarbonisation efforts.
UACA engages sub-national and non-state actors, including the private sector, and is endorsed by the UAE Ministry of Climate Change and Environment. It is part of the global Alliances for Climate Action, an accelerator of the Race to Zero campaign led by the UN Climate Change High-Level Champions. The campaign aims to halve emissions by 2030 in line with the Paris Agreement.

Dr. Shaikha Salem Al Dhaheri, Secretary-General of EAD, signed the pledge on behalf of the Agency. The signing was witnessed by Razan Khalifa Al Mubarak, Chair of the UACA Advisory Committee and President of the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN), along with Laila Mostafa Abdullatif, Director-General of Emirates Nature-WWF.
As a member of the UACA Advisory Committee, EAD will provide strategic and technical guidance based on its sectoral expertise. The Agency aims to increase momentum towards a net-zero future and ensure UACA drives enhanced domestic sub-national non-state actor commitments.
EAD will support UACA's outreach by fostering synergies between non-state actor decarbonisation learnings and engaging policymakers on findings and recommendations. The Agency will also raise awareness about UACA's benefits to the UAE and identify strategic opportunities for UACA to contribute to national projects.
Additionally, EAD will assign a focal point to achieve the UAE's Net Zero by 2050 strategic initiative by sharing information on upcoming policies and relevant information as necessary. This commitment aligns with Abu Dhabi's broader climate strategy.
Leadership in Climate Action
Razan Al Mubarak highlighted EAD's role as a primary custodian of climate action in Abu Dhabi. She noted that EAD's extensive experience in addressing climate change makes it a key member of the UACA Advisory Committee.
Last year, EAD launched the Abu Dhabi Climate Change Strategy with ambitious targets to reduce emissions in Abu Dhabi. This initiative underscores EAD's commitment to supporting the UAE's strategic goal of reaching Net Zero by 2050.
Dr. Shaikha emphasised Abu Dhabi's dedication to achieving Net Zero by 2050 in alignment with the UAE Government's vision. This commitment reflects a broader effort to combat climate change through strategic initiatives and collaborative efforts.
