DXB Shatters Records With Busiest Quarter Ever, Hits New Milestone With 23 Million Guests
Dubai International (DXB) has set a new record in the aviation sector by achieving its busiest quarter ever, further solidifying its position as a central hub in global aviation a pivotal force in the economic and aviation landscape of Dubai and the Middle East. In Q1 2024, DXB experienced a notable increase in passenger traffic, welcoming 23 million guests, a significant 8.4% rise compared to the same timeframe last year. This surge highlights DXB's magnetic pull to key markets and its vital role in bolstering Dubai's status as a leading international hub for both tourism and business.
According to Paul Griffiths, CEO of DXB, this growth trend is a testament to the airport's dynamic expansion, driven in part by the addition of new cities to the network by major carriers Emirates and flydubai. "As Dubai continues to ascend as a global magnet for talent, businesses, and tourists, our focus is on maintaining this growth momentum and improving the airport experience for every traveller. With a promising start to the second quarter and a positive outlook for the remainder, we're adjusting our forecast to 91 million guests for the year, aiming to surpass the previous record of 89.1 million in 2018," Griffiths stated.

DXB's remarkable handling of increasing passenger and cargo volumes is a key contributor to Dubai's economic development and tourism growth. The city witnessed a 3.3% rise in its real GDP, which is valued at approximately Dh307.9 billion. As the primary gateway to Dubai, DXB supports the emirate's diversified economy and enhances its global reputation. With flights connecting to 256 destinations in 102 countries via 90 international carriers, DXB plays a crucial role in establishing Dubai as a global center for business and logistics.

DXB continues to meet the growing travel demands of the UAE's key markets around the world. India stands out as DXB's top destination country with 3.1 million guests, followed by Saudi Arabia at 2 million, the UK at 1.5 million, and Pakistan at 1.1 million. Other notable contributors include the US, Russia, and Germany. The cities with the highest passenger numbers were London, Riyadh, and Jeddah, with Mumbai also featuring prominently.
Key Figures of the Quarter
The first quarter saw a total of 109,238 flight movements, marking an 8.3% increase from last year. The load factor was at 79.1%, with the average number of passengers per aircraft movement slightly adjusting to 217 from 220 during the same period in the previous year. Additionally, DXB's efficient baggage system managed 26.8 million bags, demonstrating the airport's operational excellence and dedication to providing seamless travel experiences.
