Dubai Trade To Implement AI For Streamlined Trade And Supply Chain Operations
In a significant move towards enhancing the efficiency of cross-border trade, Dubai Trade, the centralized digital platform for trade and logistics services in Dubai, is set to incorporate generative artificial intelligence (AI) into its offerings. This initiative, as disclosed by Mohamed AbuHamra, Chief Operating Officer, Digital Technology, DP World, GCC, aims to streamline the trade sector and supply chain networks, making them more accessible and user-friendly.
During an interview with Emirates News Agency (WAM), AbuHamra highlighted the innovative steps already taken by Dubai Trade to facilitate smoother product journeys for end-users. He underscored the platform's influential role in advocating for a unified digital window for seaports globally by early 2024, a recommendation backed by the International Maritime Organisation (IMO).

The complexity of logistics services, according to AbuHamra, can be significantly reduced through the adoption of new technologies. He drew a parallel between the ease of online shopping and the potential for simplifying commercial shipment clearances. A technical project is underway to expedite operations upon the arrival of shipment receipt statements at ports, aiming to eliminate delays in the clearance process and ensure direct delivery to warehouses.
AbuHamra pointed out the lag in digital technology adoption within supply chains and the trade sector compared to other industries worldwide. With over 700 digital services, Dubai Trade seeks to lead and revolutionize this field. As DP World's digital arm in the GCC region, Dubai Trade has established itself as a premier provider of digital trade and logistics services.
2023 has been a year of significant economic growth for Dubai, particularly in the non-oil trade sector. This growth has had a profound impact on Jebel Ali Port, the largest port in the Middle East and one of the biggest globally. The streamlined operations and simplified procedures offered through Dubai Trade have been instrumental in achieving these results.
The positive effects of trade partnership agreements signed by the UAE with various countries have also been highlighted by AbuHamra. These agreements have played a crucial role in enhancing the operations of Dubai Trade, especially over the past year.
Supporting the Dubai Economic Agenda D33, Dubai Trade continues to lead in digital innovation. Since its inception in 2003, it has processed over 300 million transactions and significantly reduced paper usage by approximately 617 million documents. In comparison to 26 million transactions in 2022, last year witnessed a remarkable 25 percent increase to 32.6 million transactions.
This strategic integration of generative AI into Dubai Trade's digital products is poised to further optimize trade processes, reinforcing Dubai's position as a key trade and logistics hub in the region.
