Dubai Hosts Prestigious Stem Cell Congress With Over 30 International Experts
The Dubai Stem Cell Congress (DSCC) commenced its second edition today at the Palazzo Versace, Dubai, marking a significant event in the field of stem cell research and treatment. This year, the congress has attracted over 30 experts and specialists from across the globe, including Japan, the USA, Sweden, Finland, Germany, the Netherlands, Qatar, and the UAE. The theme for this year's congress is "Connecting Hope," aiming to bridge the gap between scientists and patients and serve as a foundational platform for annual gatherings in this critical area of medicine.
The DSCC is not just a forum for discussion but also a venue for recognizing outstanding contributions to the field. Awards such as the "Humanitarian Award," "Champions Award" for Best Contribution, "The Great Initiative Mind," and "Academic ACE" among others are presented to honor individuals and initiatives making significant impacts. This year introduces the Humanitarian Award in memory of Dr. Hal Broxmeyer, whose work in cord blood stem cell therapies has aided over 50,000 patients worldwide. Beth Broxmeyer will accept the award on behalf of her late husband.

With a focus on innovation and advancement, the congress features a lineup of more than 30 notable speakers, including over 18 from the US. Among them is Dr. Jacques Galipeau, MD, a leading figure in therapeutic development and oncology. Dr. Fatma Alhashimi, Chairman of the DSCC and Director of Hortman Stem Cell Laboratory, highlighted the congress's role in raising awareness and showcasing the latest advancements in stem cell technologies and applications.
Sessions at the congress cover a broad spectrum of topics within stem cell research and regenerative medicine. These include discussions on stem cells' role in treating cardiovascular diseases, insights from ongoing research, and advancements in stem technologies and gene therapies. Dr. Alhashimi also emphasized the importance of community awareness regarding stem cell sample preservation or donation for treating various diseases.
The congress also sheds light on incurable diseases like thalassemia, Fanconi anaemia leading to aplastic anaemia, and leukaemia. The UAE's significant thalassemia cases due to consanguineous marriage highlight the importance of umbilical cord treatment as a hopeful option for patients. Success stories shared at the conference include Mahra's recovery through this innovative treatment method.
Organized by INDEX Conferences and Exhibitions Organisation LLC and supported by the Dubai Health Authority, the two-day conference offers participants 13 CME points. The DSCC stands as a pivotal event in fostering collaboration and innovation in stem cell science and regenerative medicine.
