Dubai Achieves AED 2 Trillion Non-Oil Foreign Trade Milestone, Eyes Future Growth
Dubai continues to fortify its status as a pivotal global trade and logistics hub, guided by the vision of Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum. The Dubai Economic Agenda, known as D33, sets ambitious goals to position Dubai among the top three urban economies worldwide while enhancing its trade competitiveness. Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum has underscored the significant growth in Dubai's non-oil foreign trade, attributing it to robust partnerships and sustained efforts across various sectors.
In a remarkable achievement, Dubai's non-oil foreign trade reached AED2 trillion in 2023, surpassing its target a year early. This milestone underscores Dubai's resilience and adaptability in navigating global challenges. The city-state now aims to boost its foreign trade volume to AED25.6 trillion over the next decade. A key player in this growth trajectory is Dubai Customs, which processed over 26.5 million customs declarations in 2023.

To realize these ambitious goals, Dubai has launched a comprehensive program aimed at doubling the value of its non-oil foreign trade. This initiative encompasses measures to streamline trade processes, enhance profitability for businesses, and open new commercial channels. Notably, the introduction of a cross-border e-commerce platform and an authorized economic operator program are expected to bolster Dubai's market presence and secure trade exchanges with key partners like South Korea, China, and India.
Dubai Customs has been instrumental in driving growth in international trade through exceptional services and facilities. Operating digitally 24/7, the department handles around 85,000 transactions daily with intelligent systems, achieving an impressive 98% customer satisfaction rate.
Several digital initiatives have been pivotal in enhancing customs procedures and transaction volumes. The 'Shipment Status Tracking' project allows for swift actions based on shipment statuses, ensuring transparency and continuous operations. Additionally, the 'Post Audit Robotic Process Automation' leverages AI technologies to automate customs auditing processes.
Adaptable customs policies are another cornerstone of Dubai's strategy to enhance trade operations and maintain its competitive edge globally. In 2023 alone, thirteen customs notices and policies were issued to streamline business processes and eliminate complications.
Customer satisfaction remains a paramount concern for Dubai Customs, with a government survey indicating a satisfaction rate of 95.4%. Initiatives such as the Dubai Customs Consultative Council and the 'Ertibat' initiative play crucial roles in maintaining open communication with clients and enhancing the level of services and facilities available to traders and investors.
Dubai's strategic efforts have solidified its position as a leading global hub for trade and logistics services. By exceeding non-oil foreign trade expectations and continuously striving to boost competitiveness, Dubai Customs has been a key contributor to this success. Through digital innovations and flexible customs policies, Dubai is streamlining procedures and elevating customer satisfaction, further cementing its role on the international stage.
