Dubai Police Cuts Electronic Evidence Processing Time By Over Half
In a significant stride towards enhancing efficiency and responsiveness, Dubai Police has announced a remarkable reduction in the processing time for electronic evidence cases. By implementing a new workflow between their laboratory and police stations, the processing time has been cut from 27 days to just 12 days. This initiative, developed by the General Department of Forensic Sciences and Criminology, is set to primarily benefit those submitting simple complaints and reports.
Major General Ahmad bin Ghulaita, Director of the General Department of Forensic Sciences and Criminology, emphasized the department's commitment to converting challenges into creative opportunities. This approach aims not only to enhance operational systems but also to achieve elevated levels of performance across the board. The focus on improving the handling of electronic evidence cases underscores Dubai Police's dedication to leveraging technology for more effective law enforcement.

Expert Engineer Colonel Rashid Lootah, Director of Electronic Forensic Evidence, shed light on the comprehensive analysis undertaken to streamline the time-related processes for electronic cases. These include the examination of social media communications (phone examinations) and the review of surveillance camera footage. "This initiative has significantly transformed a major challenge into an opportunity for improvement, ensuring swifter case handling," Colonel Lootah remarked.
The new timeline system introduced by Dubai Police involves placing electronic evidence experts and technical officers directly at police stations. This strategic move allows for rapid coordination between the forensic laboratory and evidence officers at the stations. Colonel Lootah elaborated on the benefits of this change, noting that it has led to a substantial decrease in the number of cases forwarded to the central laboratory by 70%. Furthermore, it has reduced the timeline for handling simple electronic complaints by 15 days and minimized the need for individuals to visit more than once.
This streamlined approach not only accelerates the resolution of electronic evidence cases but also enhances the overall experience for individuals reporting such incidents. By reducing wait times and bureaucratic hurdles, Dubai Police is setting a new standard in efficient case management and customer service within law enforcement practices.
