Dubai Police Esports Tournament 2023 To Feature Over 1,500 Competitors And AED 200,000 Prize Pool

Dubai Police has revealed that the fifth Dubai Police Esports Tournament will see over 1,500 players from various nationalities, including international participants. The event is set for 14th to 17th August at the Dubai Police Officers Club in Al Jaddaf, with a prize pool of AED 200,000. This announcement was made at a press conference held at the Cycling Hub within the Dubai Police Officers Club.

Major Abdullah Al Shehhi, Director of the Cybercrime Department at the General Department of Criminal Investigation, highlighted that this tournament aligns with Dubai Police's strategic goals. It aims to enhance community awareness in digital and technological fields while promoting safety and security. The initiative also seeks to foster happiness among residents by educating them about balanced gaming practices.

Dubai Police Esports Tournament Begins Next Week

The tournament aims to tackle crimes linked to electronic games and raise awareness about cyber fraud and online extortion. Major Al Shehhi stated, "Additionally, it strives to enhance understanding of police services dedicated to mitigating cybercrimes, such as the 'Ecrime' platform for reporting incidents and the online awareness platform designed to educate the public on these critical issues."

Al Shehhi further explained that participants will learn about maintaining privacy and avoiding sharing personal information during in-game chats. The tournament also aims to educate on electronic financial transactions and their potential risks. This initiative encourages a balanced approach to esports, promoting both physical and mental health through moderation.

The press conference was attended by key figures including Rashid Mohammed Abdullah from the Dubai Sports Council; Mona Al Falasi from the Dubai Department of Economy and Tourism; professional player Shaima Al Mansouri; player Dr. Arshiya Farghath; and player Lady Lillith. Officers, journalists, media representatives, and gaming enthusiasts were also present.

Rashid Mohammed Abdullah expressed enthusiasm for the Dubai Sports Council's involvement in this tournament edition. He praised its role in raising awareness among youth about cybercrimes while protecting communities from potential risks. This effort is part of their ongoing commitment to organising sports events that engage and empower young people.

Open Registration for Participants

The tournament welcomes individuals aged 10 to 35, both male and female, with registration still open. This inclusivity reflects an effort to engage a broad audience in understanding safe gaming practices while enjoying competitive esports.
