The event aimed to enhance the Arab media industry’s global competitiveness.
H.H. Sheikh Ahmed bin Mohammed welcomed attendees to Dubai PodFest 2025, highlighting its inspiration from His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum's vision. He emphasised Dubai's dedication to elevating Arab media by providing opportunities for both traditional and emerging platforms to excel and deliver top-tier content worldwide.

He noted that digital content transcends entertainment and communication, serving as a tool for development and cultural dialogue. By empowering creators, Dubai invests in a future where Arab media can compete globally while maintaining its identity.
Mona Al Marri, Vice Chairperson and Managing Director of the Dubai Media Council and President of the Dubai Press Club, highlighted podcasts' growing significance in today's media landscape. She remarked on podcasting's unique ability to combine credibility with direct reach. Through Dubai PodFest, a platform is provided for youth and entrepreneurs to share ideas and shape this expanding sector.
During the opening session, Mona Al Marri honoured winners of the Arab Podcast Program. This initiative supports regional podcast growth through workshops offering practical training. Emirati writer Amani Abdullah Al Teneiji won first place for her podcast Mareekh. Saudi media professional Raghad Al Arishi secured second place with Qudam, while Tahani Mohammed Zuhayman from Syria took third with Esma’ha Meni.
Maryam Al Mulla, Director of the Dubai Press Club, delivered a welcome note emphasising podcasting's strong presence in digital media. She stated that podcasting has become integral to daily life and is a promising driver of Dubai’s creative economy ambitions.
Insights on Podcast Monetisation
The opening session featured insights from Bryan Barletta, President of Podcast Movement. He discussed adapting global monetisation models for regional growth. Barletta identified localisation as crucial due to diverse Arabic dialects allowing unique audience building while requiring tailored advertising strategies.
Barletta noted that podcasts remain under-monetised despite high engagement levels. He advised diversifying revenue through merchandise, e-books, memberships, licensing, and live events—often outperforming advertising revenue. Subscription models priced lower than major streaming services were also recommended.
Strategies for Success
Barletta outlined an action plan for podcast success starting with audience surveys and developing bonus content. He encouraged creators to prioritise niche communities over mass audiences for sustainable growth through meaningful engagement with loyal listeners.
The fifth edition of Dubai PodFest was organised by the Dubai Press Club at the Ritz-Carlton in Dubai International Financial Centre.
