Dubai's 2030 Transport Strategy Set To Enhance Economy By Dh16.8 Billion

Mattar Al Tayer, Director General and Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors of the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), recently disclosed the Dubai Commercial and Logistics Land Transport Strategy 2030. The strategy, supported by the Dubai Executive Council led by Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, envisions a robust enhancement in the land transport and logistics sector's contributions to Dubai's economy, targeting a direct contribution of Dh16.8 billion. It also aims for a 75% increase in technology adoption within infrastructure, a 30% reduction in carbon emissions, and a 10% improvement in operational efficiency.

The strategy is designed to boost Dubai’s standing as a premier global centre for finance, business, and economy in line with the vision of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum and the Dubai Economic Agenda (D33). It focuses on the regulation and governance of the commercial transport sector, seeking to spur development, innovation, and investment opportunities in collaboration with the private sector.

Dubai Transport Plan Boosts Economy

Developed through partnerships with strategic allies, private entities, and commercial stakeholders, the strategy aims at cost efficiency, modern technological infrastructure adoption, and enhancing safety and security within the sector. "By simplifying regulations, supporting SMEs, and promoting zero-emission vehicles, we aim to bolster the sector's growth and competitiveness," Al Tayer remarked.

The surge in e-commerce and Dubai’s pivotal role as a logistics hub has significantly propelled the commercial transport sector's growth, with a 34% compound annual growth rate over the past five years. With 351,000 registered commercial vehicles and 9,699 companies, the sector markedly contributed Dh8.5 billion to Dubai’s economy in 2021 and created around 242,000 jobs.

As part of the strategy, 17 projects have been outlined to enhance the sector's competitiveness and support digital transformation. These projects include developing digital platforms, value-added permits, heavy freight services, and initiatives aimed at modernizing fleet operations and adopting innovative technologies.

Additionally, the strategy aligns with six specialized strategies aimed at traffic safety, self-driving mobility, zero-emission public transport, asset management, investment, and digitization. This holistic approach underlines Dubai's commitment to integrating advanced technologies and sustainable practices within its commercial transport and logistics sector, setting a benchmark for global cities.
