Dubai Judicial Institute Partners With ICRC To Enhance International Humanitarian Law Expertise

The Dubai Judicial Institute has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC). This agreement aims to enhance strategic collaboration and develop expertise in international humanitarian law. The initiative supports the UAE's global commitments within these legal frameworks.

The MoU signing took place virtually, attended by Judge Dr. Ebtessam Ali Al Badwawi, Director-General of Dubai Judicial Institute, and Valentina Bernasconi, Head of the ICRC Mission in the UAE. Several officials and directors from both organisations were also present.

Dubai Judicial Institute Signs MoU with ICRC

Dr. Al Bedwai expressed pride in forming this partnership with the ICRC. "This Memorandum of Understanding strengthens the existing strategic cooperation between the two institutions and supports our efforts to promote legal awareness and deepen the understanding of international humanitarian law," she stated.

Dr. Al Bedwai further emphasised their dedication to implementing the memorandum fully. She noted that their shared vision aligns with promoting justice and humanity as per the UAE's objectives. This partnership is seen as a step towards achieving these goals.

Valentina Bernasconi highlighted the significance of this MoU for ongoing cooperation between UAE authorities and the ICRC. "This Memorandum of Understanding marks an important step in the ongoing and constructive cooperation between the authorities in the UAE and the International Committee of the Red Cross," she remarked.

Shared Vision for Peace

Bernasconi congratulated Dubai Judicial Institute on this initiative, reflecting UAE's commitment to its international humanitarian law obligations. She stressed that mutual understanding and respect for this law are crucial to preventing dehumanisation and fostering lasting peace.

"This Memorandum of Understanding is a welcome initiative in these challenging times, and the International Committee is pleased to officially launch this collaboration with the Dubai Judicial Institute to help enhance the expertise of national international humanitarian law personnel," Bernasconi added.

This collaboration signifies a significant move towards enhancing legal knowledge and expertise in international humanitarian law within the region, aligning with broader global commitments.
