Dubai Awards Global Innovators in Sustainable Development at Prestigious Summit
Under the auspices of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the Dubai International Best Practices Award for Sustainable Development recently celebrated its winners at the World Governments Summit. This prestigious award, a joint effort by the Dubai Municipality and UN-Habitat, aims to acknowledge and promote innovative practices worldwide that contribute to resilience, improved quality of life, and a better global living environment.
H H Sheikh Ahmed bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum highlighted the award as a testament to the UAE and Dubai's exceptional commitment to sustainable development. He noted that the UAE is a pioneering example of sustainable and comprehensive development focused on enhancing individual well-being and promoting social, economic, and urban prosperity.

The award recognized outstanding projects across various categories. The ‘BAM - Biblioteca degli Alberi Milano Tree Library Project’ from Italy was honored in the Urban Regeneration and Public Spaces category. New Zealand’s ‘Scion Innovation Hub’ received accolades in the Iconic Building Practices category. The ‘EatCloud Zero Food Waste - Zero Emissions - Zero Hunger’ initiative from Colombia was celebrated in the Sustaining Urban Food Systems category. Indonesia’s ‘Gree Energy (The Hamparan Project)’ was recognized for Addressing Climate Change and Reducing Pollution, while Egypt’s ‘Local Area Development Plan (LADP)’ was acknowledged in the Urban Infrastructure Planning and Management category.
Dawoud Al Hajri, Director-General of Dubai Municipality, underscored the UAE's dedication to achieving comprehensive sustainable development. He emphasized the nation's commitment to fostering a society characterized by high standards of food security, self-sufficiency, health, and economic prosperity. The Dubai International Best Practices Award for Sustainable Development serves as a platform to showcase innovative projects that drive sustainable urban development, reduce food waste, and tackle climate change and pollution.
The award attracted 2,638 participation requests from 144 countries. An advisory jury of experts selected the winners based on their innovative approaches to sustainable development. The World Governments Summit provided a backdrop for this celebration, emphasizing global collaboration and showcasing successful government strategies.
