Dubai Future Solutions: Sheikha Latifa Recognises Top Five Contestants In Global Innovation Initiative

The Dubai Future Solutions – Prototypes for Humanity initiative, guided by H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, celebrated another successful year. H.H. Sheikha Latifa bint Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum honoured the top five participants at the awards ceremony during the Dubai Future Forum, held at the Museum of the Future.

This initiative, under Sheikha Latifa's patronage, gathered students and professors from over 800 universities worldwide. Their innovative projects aim to address urgent social and environmental issues. The top 100 projects were showcased in an exhibition inaugurated by Sheikha Latifa at AREA 2071 in Emirates Towers.

Sheikha Latifa emphasised Dubai's commitment to fostering innovation across various fields. "Dubai is dedicated to nurturing innovation and creativity across all fields, creating an environment where pioneering minds, institutions, and industries can thrive," she stated. This initiative brings together global talent with sustainable solutions for today's challenges.

The winners received a total prize of AED360,000 to support further research. The selected projects include ANGIE from ETH Zurich for brain tumour treatment, TERRACEL from Stanford University for soil-powered energy, FREZA NANOTECH from Uganda Christian University for biodegradable preservation solutions, PLASMA WASTEWATER PURIFICATION from IIT Delhi for wastewater treatment, and TIME SENSITIVE APPLICATIONS OF IN-NETWORK ML from Oxford University for ultra-low latency applications.

The Prototypes for Humanity programme has a decade-long history of highlighting academia's role in solving complex problems. It offers global talent access to government support, industry partners, venture experts, and funding opportunities to drive impactful change.

Projects span health, energy, data, society, and nature challenges. The programme collaborates with visionary students and professors from over 100 countries to advance projects addressing significant global issues. Among this year's featured projects are entries from Stanford, Oxford, Imperial College, and 11 from the Middle East and North Africa region.

Partnerships Driving Innovation

The DFF and Hussain Sajwani – DAMAC Foundation lead the Dubai Future Solutions – Prototypes for Humanity programme. DAMAC Foundation pledged AED100 million to advance innovation in Dubai. Supporting partners include Dubai Culture and DIFC. Prototypes for Humanity is an Art Dubai Group initiative that provides the academic network for the programme.

Khalfan Belhoul, CEO of DFF, remarked on Dubai's role as a future city model: "Dubai stands among the world’s foremost cities of the future." He highlighted how the initiative connects visionary talents globally with professionals ready to realise their ideas.

Commitment to Global Leadership

Arif Amiri, CEO of DIFC, noted their longstanding support underscores its importance in showcasing innovation excellence: "Our longstanding support for this initiative underscores its importance in showcasing excellence in innovation." He stressed bringing together individuals and organisations to tackle worldwide challenges.

Hussain Sajwani expressed honour in supporting Dubai's leadership in innovation: "Supporting Dubai’s leadership in innovation and welcoming global creative minds is truly an honour." His commitment aligns with advancing innovation through collaboration between academia and industry.

A Decade of Academic Innovation

Tadeu Baldani Caravieri highlighted Prototypes for Humanity's role over ten years: "For a decade, Prototypes for Humanity has established itself as the world’s most comprehensive convener of academic innovation." He noted its unique ability to unite innovators with industry to tackle complex global challenges.

This year saw diverse pioneering ideas from leading institutions worldwide. Over ten years, they have developed a vast academic network connecting over 20,000 professors from more than 800 universities across six continents.
