Dubai Future Labs Showcases Innovative Robotics Solutions At IROS In MENA For The First Time
Dubai Future Labs (DFL), a research and development lab under the Dubai Future Foundation, is attending the International Conference on Intelligent Robots and Systems (IROS) for the third year in a row. This event, held until 18th October in Abu Dhabi, marks its 36th edition and is hosted for the first time in the Middle East and North Africa.
During IROS, DFL is presenting its latest innovations, including a range of logistics robots created by its research team. These unmanned ground vehicles (UGVs) feature an outdoor autonomous delivery robot designed for efficient last-mile logistics with excellent mobility on sidewalks. Additionally, there is a robot that automates complex warehouse tasks using advanced AI-driven manipulation.

DFL's showcase also includes a specialised robot developed for autonomous search and rescue operations during emergencies. This highlights their commitment to advancing robotics technology for practical applications. The lab will conduct a workshop focused on adaptable mobile manipulation solutions, aiming to enhance robot deployment across diverse environments such as factories and homes.
Khalifa Al Qama, Director of Dubai Future Labs, emphasised the significance of IROS as a platform for fostering international collaborations in robotics. He stated, "IROS is an important platform for strengthening international partnerships in the realm of robotics and is an opportunity for Dubai Future Labs to highlight some of its most advanced projects that are attracting talent from around the world."
The workshop will address challenges in robotics by exploring solutions that allow robots to adapt to new conditions efficiently. This aligns with DFL's educational and capacity-building goals. The lab aims to demonstrate how adaptable mobile manipulation can improve robot deployment reliability across various settings.
Al Qama expressed hope that DFL's participation would provide international delegates insight into Dubai's ambition to become a leading global R&D hub. He added, "We hope our participation at IROS will give international delegates a glimpse into Dubai's vision to become a leading global R&D city in line with the objectives of the Dubai Robotics and Automation Programme launched by H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum."
DFL's Continued Engagement
DFL first joined IROS in 2022 when it was held in Kyoto, Japan, followed by participation in Detroit, USA, in 2023. Their consistent involvement underscores their dedication to showcasing advancements in robotics and automation on an international stage.
This year's conference provides DFL with another opportunity to highlight its cutting-edge projects while engaging with global experts and innovators in robotics technology.
