Dubai Customs Celebrates Graduation Of First Security Training Cohort For Emirati Inspectors
Dubai Customs recently marked the graduation of its first group of participants from a security refresher course. This initiative, conducted in partnership with the Dubai Police Academy, aims to enhance the skills of customs inspectors. The event was attended by Brigadier Dr. Sultan Abdul Hamid Al Jamal and Khamis Al Muhairi, highlighting the collaboration between these institutions.
The programme is part of a broader effort to integrate security and customs functions. It recruited 84 young Emiratis, fresh out of high school, to prepare them for roles as customs inspectors. The training included intensive field exercises focusing on security readiness and awareness.

Workshops were a key component, covering topics such as analysing suspicious behaviours and managing high-risk shipments. Dubai Police experts played a crucial role in providing supervision and instruction throughout the course.
Brigadier Al Jamal praised the graduates, describing the course as a pioneering model for preparing national cadres in integrated customs and security functions. He reiterated the Academy’s dedication to offering advanced training that aligns with international standards.
Mohammed Al Ghafari, Executive Director for Human Resources at Dubai Customs, emphasised that the course reflects their commitment to developing well-rounded customs professionals. These individuals are trained not only in customs qualifications but also in physical and security skills.
"The training is not limited to customs qualifications but includes physical and security skills," said Al Ghafari, reinforcing the role of inspectors as the first line of defence. This comprehensive approach aims to protect Dubai’s ports effectively.
Collaboration with Dubai Police Academy
Yasser Al-Muslimi, Senior Customs Affairs Consultant, noted that working with the Dubai Police Academy enhances frontline capabilities across all ports—land, sea, and air. This collaboration improves the overall security system significantly.
The refresher course is seen as a crucial step in Dubai Customs’ sustainable training system. It focuses on institutional integration and national protection while aiming to meet global benchmarks in security standards.
Al-Muslimi commended the support from the Dubai Police Academy in raising security standards within customs operations. This joint effort is essential for enhancing readiness and supporting national security objectives effectively.
