Dubai Customs Organises AEO Connect 2024 Forum To Strengthen Trade And Customs Cooperation
Dubai Customs has initiated the inaugural AEO Connect 2024 forum. This event aims to foster idea exchange, share insights, and explore opportunities for enhancing the Authorised Economic Operator (AEO) programme. The goal is to strengthen cooperation between customs and the business sector.
The AEO programme is a federal initiative in the UAE. It connects the country commercially and customs-wise with global markets. This connection facilitates member companies' access to international markets, especially those with mutual recognition agreements.

By offering benefits like simplified customs procedures and priority transaction processing, the AEO programme plays a vital role in boosting foreign trade. These measures expedite goods clearance for compliant companies while ensuring customs security and trade facilitation.
Dubai Customs aims to enrich participating companies' experiences in the AEO programme. They seek to drive trade growth by providing competitive facilities and incentives for members.
Eman Badr Al-Suwaidy, Director of the Customs Valuation Department and Manager of the AEO Programme at Dubai Customs, delivered an opening speech during the online forum. She highlighted Dubai Customs' commitment to fostering communication, supporting AEO members, and promoting sustainable foreign trade growth.
"The forum featured a keynote address from Maersk, highlighting the importance of the AEO 2.0 programme in driving global trade facilitation and supporting the resilience of supply chains in the face of global economic challenges."
Programme Expansion and Achievements
The programme currently includes 130 members in the UAE, with plans for further expansion. Notable achievements include launching a regional AEO programme for GCC countries in 2023 and signing mutual recognition agreements with key trade partners.
"These agreements have allowed members to benefit from AEO status with the GCC, Republic of Korea, China, India, and Indonesia, enhancing their recognition as trusted traders."
Future Developments: AEO 3.0
The evolution towards AEO 3.0 was discussed at the forum. This development emphasises digital innovation and data's role in improving programme efficiency and security.
The forum also introduced new features such as fast-track trade lanes, trusted trade lanes, digital corridors, smart borders, and smarter risk management strategies.
