Dubai Airports Enhances Accessibility with 520 New Hearing Loops
The operator of the busiest international airport in the world, Dubai Airports, has announced the completion of an ambitious project that positions Dubai International (DXB) as a leader in accessibility.
Over 520 Hearing Loops have been installed throughout the airport, making it the largest implementation of such technology globally.

This initiative is designed to aid travelers with hearing impairments, including those who use hearing aids or cochlear implants, reinforcing DXB's commitment to becoming the most accessible and inclusive airport worldwide.
These Hearing Loops can be found in strategic areas across all three of DXB's terminals, such as check-in counters, immigration desks, boarding gates, and information desks.
The technology enables users to connect to the system directly by activating the 'T' (telecoil) setting on their devices, which requires no additional equipment or pairing.
Majed Al Joker, the Chief Operating Officer of Dubai Airports, expressed the organization's dedication to inclusivity, stating: "At Dubai Airports, we are committed to ensuring that every guest, regardless of ability, can navigate our terminals with ease, dignity, and confidence. The successful installation of over 520 Hearing Loops across DXB is a testament to the collaborative spirit of our oneDXB airport community, including all our strategic partners and airlines, whose unified effort is making our shared vision of a more seamless and accessible travel experience a reality for all."
This initiative aligns with the Universal Design Code of Dubai, emphasizing the importance of inclusive access to public spaces and transportation infrastructure.
The installation was strategically planned to minimize impact on airport operations and also included specialized training for frontline staff to assist travelers effectively.
The introduction of Hearing Loops at DXB was a collaborative effort involving numerous partners within the oneDXB community, including Emirates, flydubai, Dubai Police, the General Directorate of Identity and Foreigners Affairs (GDRFA), Dubai Customs, dnata, Dubai Corporation for Ambulance Services, Dubai Taxi Company, and Dubai Duty Free.
This joint endeavor underscores the collective commitment to enhancing the travel experience for passengers with hearing loss.
Globally, over 1.5 billion people live with some degree of hearing loss, a figure projected to reach 2.5 billion by 2050, according to the World Health Organisation.
In response, accessible communication systems are increasingly critical in international transport hubs. The deployment of Hearing Loops at DXB is a key component of Dubai Airports' extensive accessibility strategy.
This strategy focuses on infrastructure improvements and staff training to cater to a broad spectrum of needs, ensuring every traveler feels valued and supported from the moment they enter the airport until they board their flight.
