Dubai Airports And Al Jalila Foundation Collaborate On Travel Simulation For Children With Autism Spectrum Disorder
Dubai Airports recently organised a travel simulation at Dubai International Airport (DXB) for children with autism spectrum disorder. This event, part of the Ta’alouf Programme by Al Jalila Foundation, aimed to boost confidence and prepare these children and their families for travel. The programme, launched 13 years ago, equips families and educators with skills to support children with various needs.
The Ta’alouf Programme focuses on integrating individuals with conditions like autism, Down syndrome, and developmental delays into society. It transforms challenges into growth opportunities by addressing behavioural, psychological, and educational needs. This initiative aligns with the UAE Year of the Community and Dubai Airports’ commitment to inclusivity.

In collaboration with oneDXB community members, caregivers, volunteers, and airport staff, the simulation provided a supportive environment. Children navigated key airport areas such as check-in and passport control at their own pace. This approach aimed to reduce anxiety and build familiarity with the airport experience.
Majed Al Joker, Chief Operating Officer of Dubai Airports, highlighted the importance of empathy in creating accessible travel experiences. He stated that accessibility involves more than infrastructure; it requires meeting individual needs with care. This initiative demonstrates the power of collaboration in achieving these goals.
Amer Al Zarooni, CEO of Al Jalila Foundation, expressed gratitude to Dubai Airports for supporting families of people of determination. He noted that this initiative aligns with the UAE’s national policy to empower people of determination and reflects DXB’s dedication to inclusive travel.
This effort is part of Dubai Airports’ broader strategy to enhance accessibility for all travellers. Through its We All Meet the World Differently campaign, the airport implements inclusive practices and employee training to support travellers facing visible and invisible challenges.
Global Recognition
Dubai International Airport has achieved a significant milestone as the first international airport globally to receive the Certified Autism Center designation from the International Board of Credentialing and Continuing Education Standards (IBCCES). This recognition underscores Dubai’s leadership in promoting inclusive travel experiences worldwide.
The simulation offered a calm environment supported by trained Guest Experience Ambassadors. Participants were able to explore airport touchpoints like boarding gates in a structured manner. This initiative is part of ongoing efforts by Dubai Airports to enhance inclusivity for all passengers.
This collaborative effort highlights how empathy and understanding can create accessible travel experiences for everyone. By focusing on individual needs beyond infrastructure improvements, Dubai Airports continues to lead in providing inclusive services for all travellers.
