Digital Dubai Sets Course For AI-Powered Data Centre Economy To Spur Innovation
Digital Dubai, in collaboration with government and private sector partners, has initiated steps to implement the Strategic Vision for the Data Centre Economy in Dubai. Approved by The Executive Council, this vision aims to position Dubai as a leading example of future economies supported by emerging technologies. This initiative aligns with the Dubai Economic Agenda D33, which seeks to boost Dubai's economic productivity by 50% through digital innovation.
A study by Digital Dubai revealed that adopting the strategic vision for AI-backed data centres could generate an added value of over AED14.3 billion by 2028. This move is expected to create more job opportunities within the digital economy related to data centres. Additionally, it will enhance Dubai's readiness for next-generation technologies such as Web 3.0, including the Metaverse, Smart Cities, and the Internet of Things.

Hamad Obaid Al Mansoori, Director-General of Digital Dubai, highlighted the UAE's competitive edge in becoming a global hub for sustainable data centres. "The digital economy in Dubai is an essential pillar of Dubai's digital strategy, which aims to increase its contribution to the emirate's overall economy by $100 billion," he stated.
Digital Dubai is working with several entities including the Telecommunications and Digital Government Regulatory Authority, Dubai Electricity and Water Authority, and others to enhance Dubai's readiness for a future economy. These efforts aim to solidify its leading position in this field through coordinated measures.
The strategic vision represents an advanced stage in digital leadership and the digital economy. It aims to foster comprehensive integration and coordination among various entities such as Digital Dubai, the Department of Economy and Tourism, and non-governmental agencies working in this field.
Economic Impact and Future Prospects
Younus Al Nasser, Chief Executive of the Dubai Data and Statistics Establishment, commented on the ongoing global transformations. "With new economic patterns emerging, future opportunities are presenting themselves for dynamic economies like Dubai's," he said. "The data centre economy exemplifies these transformations."
The initiatives include developing high-performance computing facilities, ensuring advanced data centre usage, increasing reliance on renewable energy sources, facilitating government procedures related to energy access and planning, and enhancing energy-saving processes.
Leadership Perspectives

"The transformative strategy to establish an AI-powered data centre economy is a testament to His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum's leadership," he said. "This enables Dubai to stay at the forefront of the evolving global digital economy."
The next phase will focus on enhancing cloud computing adoption within the government sector. Efforts will also be directed towards achieving comprehensive integration among stakeholders involved in the data centre economy.
This strategic vision aims not only at technological advancement but also at strengthening partnerships across various sectors such as sustainable artificial intelligence. By doing so, it seeks to create a fertile ground for innovation that aligns with the goals set out in the D33 Agenda.
